There's two pistol lights that stand out to me for the same price, but are from two different worlds of training. Dunno which way to go.

There's the XC1, which is in the school of ultra light, compact, at the compromise of light output. It throws light out in a wide, unfocused cone which is used for lighting up everything around you, letting you see more of your surroundings, making sure the target you're looking at is in fact hostile. It's a light bred from the need of having a light on your person, without having a cumbersome flashlight slapped onto the front, killing the balance and feel of the firearm, which in very important situations is critical.



The other, is the X300 Ultra.



This, as the name implies, is from the no compromise class of lights. Big, heavy, and absolutely blinding. It's over three times as bright, to the point where you can actually feel the heat off the lens after just a few seconds. Built like a tank, the Ultra is at home on large, equally uncompromising firearms where the terms light-weight, compactness, and compromise are dirty four-letter words.

And, because of that, it's a total pig. Uses batteries in a side by side layout, extends beyond the muzzle, which will foul the lens and require occasional scrubbing to keep clean, and retain the advantage it has of being blindingly bright.

I have a light of lesser quality from another company that mimics that Ultra, so the weight, size, and even light output is familiar, but you can definitely feel the weight. It pulls the muzzle down, and I notice my shot groups reflect this. It's why the smaller light attracts me, as it's a quarter of the weight, and doesn't extend past the muzzle, but it's at the cost of cutting the brightness by two-thirds.

I'd say the smaller light is more economically and better suited towards the use of the pistol. :)
