i got on board with celestia's issues and luna's issues and it was great for them to realize and appreciate one another at the end. i have to give leeway that these long lived immortal goddesses had to have a communication flaw to make this episode possible in the first place - so.... yeah. okay, fine, i'll pay that price - to witness canon celestia and luna conflict and resolution.

==the fact celestia and luna can be easily affected (assaulted, really) by regular unicorn magic is a high price of 'suspension of disbelief' to pay for admission to this spectacle
==either accept celestia and luna are inherently vulnerable to lesser magical beings ( NOT FUCKING HAPPENING MATE ) OR acknowledge starlight has devastating magic potential surpassing twilight sparkle and maybe even Sombra ( please god no, starlight screw off already or at least get out from annoying twilight relationship )

I agree with the first paragraph, I too would pay the price to see Celestia and Luna in an episode together. OCD Twilight ruins a lot. You say Celestia can be affected by regular unicorn magic, but then we see her in dreams tanking daybreaker and nightmare moon magic beams with her wings, as if they're anti magic.

Also it's pretty much true that Starlight has devastating magic potential that most likely surpasses Twilight actually. I really like this because it shows that a well studied unicorn is no joke. It's been referenced many times that Starlight is able to teach Twilight new things and they both kind of temper each other? But it seems like Starlight is ahead, you have to have some experience in taking over an entire village and a certain level of maturity to do so.

Not to mention, I think Starlight should be an alicorn already, if she can mess around with pony's cutie marks as she just did to the freaking princesses. She can already do it to other ponies, and is a form of changing someone's fate. Which is all what Twilight freaking did in one of the finale's no? When she swapped all of her friend's cutie marks? No?

Power levels in Star Wars are extremely flexible padawans wreck shit all the time. Anakin was supposed to be superior to most masters, because he's space Jesus. Glimmer is similar.

Did you miss the season opener or whatever it was? Twilight vs Starlight? Starlight was matching Twilight EASILY, and Twilight had to forfeit vs Starlight in order for the fight to be concluded. Starlight is definitively stronger than Twilight. Manipulating Time, Cutie Marks and besting Twilight is well beyond the realm of being some low level unicorn. She isn't some padawan, she really is that strong. But her being able to do what she did to Celestia and Luna I guess goes to show how far that power goes. I can SEE it being possible, but do I like it? Not very much.

I guess I'll throw my hat into the ring here, despite being at a several episode disadvantage.

I don't like what I've seen from Glimmer so far. I don't like how prominent she's become, and I don't like how obvious it's gotten to help those following along the seasons to forget about how overpowered Twilight was.
I get that there can be natural prodigies, but in her it's cranked to 11 and then kept there, all the damn time.
Makes for fun situations, which I guess is the intended goal here, but does it always have to be from Glimmer,
all the time? Has Twilight, or the sisters themselves evolved beyond learning lessons of their own, and it's now on Twi 2.0 to create all the mishaps?

Who knows, like I said I'm several episodes behind, so maybe I'm missing key points about her character that aren't clicking with me.

Also, as a total nitpick, Luna's mark is just the crescent moon. Paint horses naturally have coloring there, and isn't part of her mark. Unless that was done simply so we could actually see Luna's mark on Celestia, in which case that's fine.

yes, i have no interest in watching 2 eps centered on starlight glimmer, or in fact much of the modern MLP episodes in general.

twilight sparkle has earned her magical prowess and importance. inclined to study magic from a young age. a talent in magic proven at the exam. chosen as the element of magic for the harmony rainbow thing. learned about friendship which lead to more power. overcame world threatening villains. earned her alicorn status for further magical ability in alicorn type magic. on and on.

starlight comes along out of nowhere with a weak tragic backstory with the powers of an alicorn (or near it) out of the box. nothing indicating she's earned her power or how its possible and she nullifies elements of harmony (something nightmare moon couldn't do). that there was already why she had little love in the community. her other personality quirks didn't help. and now she comes along and casually, CASUALLY breaks celestia and luna passive alicorn defense magic and manipulates them to their very core by cutie mark sabotage. that's fucked. i can see no two ways about it.

It's a fun episode for what it is, but I remember the show really paying attention to continuity, and I feel it kinda hammed up. Nice to see a (sorta) Sisters episode though.

Yes, she is that powerful. I don't think she should be an Alicorn. She's already reigning supreme as the highest level Unicorn.

I guess you also missed it when Starlight was spurned so hard by Sunburst gaining his Cutie mark and essentially abandoning her. That probably led to years of her studying how to get rid of cutie marks. As for the time travel magic she used the same time magic Twilight used when she used time magic, except modified even better and using the map as a catalyst. That explains that. As for using cutie mark magic, that just may be her specialty, she's dealt with them so often and is on a similar if not stronger tier than Twilight it can be understandable at how she was able to do those things. If you really want to get into it, you can even say her cutie mark is removing cutie marks, but that's head canon nonsense. But really look at it, it looks like Twilight's cutie mark being removed. And well if you can remove the strongest unicorn's cutie mark you probably are stronger than them. But that's an argument for another day. I really have no qualms about her, I like her being stupidly strong especially when it puts Twilight in her place, but Her just casually doing it to Princess Celestia and Luna? That rustles my jimmies, but I can see how it can be done, as much as I hate seeing it happen. I can see that little 1% chance that she actually is just that strong. I also wouldn't be surprised if she came from Starswirl's lineage, I REALLY wouldn't be surprised if that were true. Maybe even Twilight as well. Who knows. But really as the alicorning episode says, if you're beyond Starswirl, you're probably alicorn level. And Twilight and Starlight are both beyond Starswirl. I think Starlight's even creating her OWN spells if I recalls which is pretty damn OP as far as I know, or maybe I'm recalling episodes poorly.

What a night. Went to the movies with dad. He wanted to see some story about a guy who loses his daughter, then talks to God; I wanted to see Logan. We couldn't come to an agreement, so we just went to our respective movies by ourselves since both would end at about the same time. I enjoyed the hell out of Logan while my dad wasn't very satisfied with his. After we came out, we found that one hell of a thunderstorm had started while we were there, but didn't notice since the theater was surprisingly soundproof for a budget theater. While we were wondering when the best time to go out was, a manager came up and gave us some unclaimed umbrellas that were left behind.

I can't remember an exact instance but Starlight doesn't make her own spells, she mixes them. She plays with magic as if it's a chemistry set, constantly taking elements from studied spells to best suit her needs.

We don't exactly know how the Cutie Mark Removal works so it is possible that she did that on her own. Or like you said, her special talent could be the removal of Cutie Marks themselves.

For only getting 10 episodes to do it, I think they did pretty well.

I think the big disconnect between this season and OG Jack is the amount of development we see.

OG Jack was already a BAMF Samurai who had nearly perfect training and morals, and the flaws he had were resolved in a single episode like Mad Jack.

Season 5 had a lot more introspection and development. Jack was still BAMF, if instead the B stood for Broken.
