1 was ok but meh. I loved 2 but it felt way too rushed

CoM was trash (but you really needed to play it to have a BASIC understanding of the stupid overall plot - hated that)
Have Birth by Sleep but it reamains untouched after 3-4 years sadly

BBS is alright. Pretty crucial for story purposes, but overall gameplay isn't as good as KH2.

Lost interest in KH a long time ago when they decided to pull a college student and pump out 50 games BESIDES KH3 to procrastinate. KH fans have had to endure some sad times.

1 and 2 made for some super fun PS2 games, but I won't be getting 3 anymore.

I normally enjoy 2 more (final mixes here) but this playthrough I still enjoy the combat more but the worlds and story seem less enjoyable than 1.

2 Final Mix. The combat is simply wonderful there.

Also, is there any reason to choose the original versions over the Final Mix versions?

I really won't... no PS4 and I was in the 6th grade when I played 1 and 2. Won't miss it that much now that I'm 24 and forgot all of the story lines. I'm not saying it won't be a great game. I just won't be getting it lol

Of the ones I've played, I think I'd say

1 > 2 > 3D > Days > Re:Coded > Re:CoM > CoM

Not to say I didn't enjoy the Chain of Memories games; they're just the ones I liked the least. One major factor in how much I enjoy a game seems to be whether or not it has the main trio; Sora, Donald and Goofy. They have a charm that nobody else can match.

3D, Days, and Coded don't really feature the main trio though.

As for my ranking:
Story:
1 > 2 > BBS > Days > CoM > DDD > Coded
Gameplay:
2 > 1 > DDD > CoM > BBS > Coded > Days

I might be the only person who loves CoM...

It's been too long since the main trio was actually together though...
Hopefully they will have plenty of screentime together in KH3.

You'll definitely need to get that ps4 before it comes out so you can jump into it day one :)

Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix. Only worse part about it over the original first game is the synthesis takes longer.

I actually really enjoyed Chain of Memories. Re:CoM was alright but I could see it as the reskin it was.

That said when I read the topic I immediately thought "Not DDD..." I so hate the drop mechanic that I stopped playing after the third drop.

The drop thing is unnecessary, but completely manageable. After a certain point you should never experience a forced drop unless it's plot related.

Chain of Memories GBA, and I'm incredibly offended you grouped Recom with it. Chain is my favorite; Recom is my most hated.

Kingdom Hearts 1. It was something new, fresh and what made me fall in love with the series. The story was good and very simple back then too. Now it's a bit of a mess to say the least but still interesting enough.

That's not a reason to choose vanilla over FM, that's a reason to not upgrade assuming you already had vanilla.

Incorrect. If I've played a game before then playing it again but with added bells and whistles doesn't make me enjoy the newer game more as I already know what happens with the story and what to expect. That's why Kingdom Hearts is my favourite and not the Final Mix version.

Interesting, so you didn't like any of the new content added in Final Mix at all? None of the new enemies, bosses, weapons, abilities, cutscenes, etc.? I would think that if there's at least one new addition that you like, it would automatically put FM over vanilla since FM has everything vanilla has and more.

Never played any Kingdom Hearts game.

I guess I see what you're saying. My brother introduced me to KH1 when it released and I thought it looked lame at first but when I played it, I had a magical time and I fell in love. But if I were to replay 1, I'd choose FM any day.

Why is it that the Chain of Memories/Coded games were grouped together, but the original/Final Mix games aren't? All of the newer games have relatively significant additions/improvements from the originals. If anything I'd say those side games are more deserving of a separate listing.

Even though Chain of Memories was my first KH game, I like KH II the most, so my vote goes for Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix. It's a great game, and I've been into it since the first time I heard about it (when I couldn't even afford a PS2.)
