We will be staying on Redondo Beach and apparently there is a bunch of stuff to do within walking distance of our hotel. I'm not sure how true that is but whatever.

I hear that the driving in L.A. is atrocious so I'm hoping that we can find enough to do within walking distance to keep occupied for a few days. I'll be sure not to get shived or mugged during my visit.

Drive south for a few hours and party in San Diego instead. Depending on the time of year I'd try and catch a Dodgers and/or Kings game and try and get into some event at staples center regardless. Don't know much about LA despite being there a few dozen times. Sorry.

That's my hometown. You have Redondo Beach pier for some cool little bars and shops. Beautiful bike path along the beach that goes all the way to Venice Beach. Then for nightlife you have Hermosa Beach pier for bars, restaurants, and a more "clubby" vibe. Downtown Manhattan Beach is a similar beach vibe but with shopping boutiques and restaurants.

But yeah if you're staying "on" Redondo Beach I'm assuming you're close to the pier there so there's restaurants, seafood, and bars. If you go south from Redondo Beach you can go up into the Palos Verdes hills which is probably one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country. But they have great hiking trails, nice coves, and a beautiful view of ALL of Los Angeles. Especially if you can catch the sunrise.

Also you don't have to worry crime in that area. It's basically a string of rich white beach towns and is a separate culture from LA proper.

Go somewhere else. I went to LA for the first time last year, and it's the shittiest city I've ever been to.

Is this within walking distance of where I'll be? My wife would be more interested in shopping than going to bars or clubs. Either way, it sounds like it'll be a nice area to hang around for a bit.

This is a free trip basically. My father in-law travels for his job and this is where he'll be going during the time we plan on taking time off. We wanted to go with him to San Fran but he went there earlier this year.

We are flying so this is why I wanted to know what's within walking distance. He'll have the rental car during the day at work. Although, I guess we could always Uber if there is somewhere close by that we would like to visit.

No but if you walk down the strand to Hermosa Beach they also have shops, restaurants and stuff there. It's just not quite as bourgeoise and fancy a vibe as Manhattan Beach's downtown area and there may be less clothing stores and boutiques.

If you're at your hotel walk to the beach and walk north down the strand until you get into Hermosa Beach. After you pass 12th st you'll hit the pier on Pier Ave and there are bars and restaurants. Continue walking up Pier Ave away from the beach and you'll see more shops.

If you want to shop in Downtown Manhattan you'll need to take an uber. Have them take you to Manhattan Pier (which also has a ghetto lil aquarium on the end of it) and then walk up Manhattan Beach blvd for shops and restaurants. It's about 15 minutes north from Redondo Beach pier.

long beach

Redondo is 30 min minimum from Long Beach. Same about 30 minute minimum from Santa Monica too.

Redondo is more south west LA. Long Beach is the true southern tip of LA county considering it borders the OC.

But yeah I don't know why TC is concerned about walking distance. If he wants the touristy LA experience he needs to Santa Monica, Venice, Hollywood, and Downtown.

that's what i'm saying. anywhere else is gonna be a 30+ minute drive for the touristy stuff from redondo.

tbh if TC had a rental car i'd just say drive away from LA period and go up to ventura/santa barbara or south to san diego. all have better beaches too.
