The point of this sub is presumably to act as some kind of support group for people who have to go through life with the crippling social problem of sometimes dealing with annoying comments from people who have families, or perhaps to bitch about children and the things they do.

With apparently zero self-awareness, these woke af nerds react angrily to every comment they perceive as a micro aggression against their way of life and then all gather around to pat each other on the back for the ridiculous way they handled the situation.

Actually I don't want want kids and I kind of agree that parents can be aggressively annoying, but I'm using it as an example of the kind of toxic community reddit creates by nature. The entire habit of a hate subreddit over something like this is just weird.

on the other hand, my fiancée subbed to it and /r/babybumps and between the both of them (and she does read both of them) she came to the conclusion she really doesn't want to have kids
so I consider it a good sub for doing that

It seems to me that /r/childfree just likes to whine that they're a minority of people. As soon as they have the majority opinion on something, they start justifying excluding those who don't share their opinion.

I feel like r/childfree ,at least what I've heard of them from AskReddit, whines more about children that they don't have as opposed to actual parents talking about their kids.

I have friends and family who cannot fathom someone not having or wanting kids and it comes off as an affront to them, like I've just spit on them even after I explain that I don't have a problem with people having kids, I have a problem with me having kids. I'm sure having kids is a very rewarding and fulfilling experience for some but I'm not interested in it and that bothers them.

They will persistently harass me about it knowing quite well where I stand on the matter. It becomes like this pet project thing where they just have to convince me and can't wait until they do. I have no doubt that some of my friends and family who've been harassing me about it are just waiting for the day I have a family so they can tell me "SEEEEEEE?" After a while, it can start to wear on you. It's also a little bit more grating coming from people who are questionable parents, have little hellspawns, and/or are up to their neck in debt because they had multiple children they couldn't afford, as has typically been the case with me. My mom, for example, has gone through all the trials and tribulations of being a parent with very, very little of the reward that comes with it yet always pushed me to have kids and criticized my choice not to.

Anyway, I think it's a little less about the subject itself and more about how intrusive and disrespectful people can be on the matter. I can't think of many other choices I've made (or not made), especially one that really doesn't concern anyone else, that people I know have tried to aggressively persuade me about. Then you have the people who can't have children and choose not to broadcast that and you got these busybodies just going on and on about it. One Thanksgiving, an aunt once told me it was my "obligation to God to have a child" and followed me around the whole day going on about it. What if I happened to be sterile? That's something that is overlooked by a lot of people like this, who take it upon themselves to tell everyone around them, even strangers, what their reproductive business should be.

That said, it really is something you have to have thicker skin about. There are times when it's really bad but most of the time it's just people who can't understand the position, and it is a weird one. We're wired to procreate and it's something most people do. That isn't to say that you shouldn't express and defend your choice on the matter if you feel like but if you're getting riled up by every little comment from everyone, you're going to have a bad time. I'm betting these people really don't have any other outlet on the matter, though. I'm good at internalizing and repressing things but that's not for everyone.

Kids disgust me. Shitty parents also disgust me. I don't want kids and neither does the girlfriend.

That said, I couldn't see myself joining a community based on these feelings.
