You literally gain nothing from gaming on a laptop in place of an actual desktop aside from a mobile gaming station. And if you're a serious gamer, that tradeoff is simply not worth the cost.

Besides, in public, you are making a statement that your machine is a monster that can chew up and spit out any game you throw at it.

Most people don't feel the need to game every damn waking second or their lives. And even if they did they'd actually have things to fucking do. Like schoolwork, jobs, and work. You know, being a contributing member of society.
