Sophos is free for home use these days and very effective. You essentially get an enterprise-grade product to use at home for free.

Windows Defender and Malwarebytes are all you need unless you make it a point to download as many questionable links as possible.

I dont know much about free anti virus but the paid version of sophos is shit
Windows defender should be enough for your AV needs assuming you also run an adblocker, malware bytes, and have a bit of smarts about you and not go to all the sketchy websites --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I use Comodo Cloud AV, it has a sandbox as well for safe web browsing and testing programs in.

I have to disagree with using Windows Defender, that is the BOTTOM of the barrel when it comes to AVs, there is no BB or HIPS or sandbox or ANYTHING that can stop malware from getting in if it isn't detected! It would just be allowed to run and cause chaos!

i use windows defender
