As much as I really, really want to make fun of the parent for this, I'd rather give the benefit of the doubt and say it was an innocent mistake. Maybe the parent only caught a glimpse of the kid and it didn't register as a Vader costume - May the Fourth isn't exactly Halloween yet.

On the other hand, someone deserves a smack upside the head if the kid in any way gets punished for this.

Even if you've never seen Star Wars, it's been referenced and parodied more than pretty much any other movie ever has. Like, you'd have to have avoid every form of media since 1977 to not know him.

yeah, and apparently some parent in Wisconsin did just that and reported a shooter, to which the school reasonable locked down. Wtf is your point? You can't say "everyone knows Darth Vader" when the story is about someone who doesn't know Darth Vader.

For real though, even if the parent did know it was a Vader costume, it was still someone on school campus wearing something to conceal their identity on a day in which no one else at school was wearing costumes, and carrying a large bag while doing so. That's pretty suspicious to someone who maybe isn't familiar with the May the 4th meme

To be fair, I don't endorse or condone the act of anybody wearing a costume, complete with face mask, in any place where it's unexpected. Wear them out in public, or at a gaming and hobby collection. Don't wear them at a place that has been visited by violence in the same respect, like schools and other institutions. It'll just lead to misunderstandings like this one, and a very real chance that somebody would come in a costume to do bullshit.
