I plan on eventually catching all 251 as legit as possible, gameshark with help with the rest but I'm torn on my team for the main portion of the story.
Nothing too crazy, ill probably get a mareep and maybe start with the fire starter bc fire Pokemon are few and far between. Then in thinking lavitar since it takes a high level to finally evolve. Umbreon can be really good. It is one of the most tanky Pokemon in second generation. Make sure to teach it Toxic.

If you are using Gameshark, pick Totodile and get a Houndour. Or, pick Cyndaquil and still get Houndour. Either way, get a Houndour. For some dumbass reason, GF made it only available in Kanto.

Hmm I was thinking espeon but maybe I'll go with umbreon. Though do I really need two fire/ dark with o go with hondour

Yeah they fucked up hard with Pokemon distribution in Gen 2. They didn't even really fix it in HGSS.
