Would you ban his hairstyle in K-12 Schools?

11 y/o Xavier Davis, a 6th grader at Cedar Bayou Junior School in Texas is facing SUSPENSION because he SHAVED 2 LINES on the side of his head and the administration said it was a Distraction and must find a way to FIX IT before he can return to class!!

His new haircut apparently OFFENDED people there as well but teachers said it was "disruptive to the educational process" as the official reasioning and landed him at in-school suspension.

His father, Matt Davis said he and the child's mom have now been forced to COLOUR IN one of those lines on his head with a SHARPIE to comply with the disciplinary code

He said "It's nonsense. We send him there to get an education. We send him there to learn. It's not about his haircut"

They're also confused because he's had that style for 6 months but it was only an issue today when his teacher finally saw it

She sent him straight to the principal's office who scolded his hairstyle and said if he didn't fix it by Monday, he's out of theere..

Xavier said "I was walking into class and she saw my hair and said You can't have 2 lines in your hair. Go to the office. I don't think it's fair"

The dress code states that "letters, symbols or designs beyond a straight line which draw attention to an individual will not be permitted. The admin/supervisor reserves the right to determine if a hairstyle is disruptive to the educational process"

Now they used a felt pen to colour it in so that he doesn't face suspension and his Dad says now they treat his hair like a colouring book...

Would you ban his hairstyle at school? let's see what people think.

I wouldn't ban any hairstyle as hairstyles do not effect learning. Still the school has rules and a image it wants to maintain so abide by the rules or GTFO. It's not unlike most workplaces.

Well private schools tend to be more authoritarian with their dress codes.

It's amazing how you can phrase a child breaking strict dress codes in a way that can make any demographic angry.

Guess it wasn't that much of a distraction then.

Apparently his hairstyle was so distracting, it took six months for the teacher to notice.
