It could break out.... in NK only. Because we nuked them. No one is going to actually go WW3 to defend NK if we go for it. No one wants MAD over that little bit of nothing country.

Didn't they declare war long before that? I remember them declaring war back when that James Franco movie came out that all the theaters were scared to play.

There are some pretty important facts being missed here;
- North Korea has been saber-rattling since the Korean War. They are trying to scare people into attacking them first because they are reliant on their defense treaty with China. I'm fairly certain even China is getting annoyed of this, however, as their only real vested interest is not having an American ally on their border.
- North Korea's army numbers are grossly inflated. They are not only counting untrained women and children, but they are also woefully underequipped. They lack the basic resources to carry on anything but a guerilla war. Even their planes are WWII era and embarrassingly outclassed by pretty much ever other nation. They also have no way to transport troops.
- Even if they have nuclear weapons, they have absolutely no delivery system. The last rocket they attempted to launch exploded immediately after launch. Unless they strap the bomb to a raft and row it across the Pacific while we give them a month long head start, they are zero threat to us or anyone not on our immediate border.
- The danger is more economic to us. If they attacked South Korea or Japan, the economic fallout would suck, but the retaliation would likely be swift and absolute. However, certain irresponsible media outlets have been ignoring these facts and instead selling this fear-mongering dreck. Yes, they are a threat to their neighbors and yes, they may well irresponsibly use nuclear weapons to the detriment of the world economy. However, would take a series of catastrophically stupid moves to start WWIII and any conflict will be on the scale of Iraq or Afghanistan; a violent, but distant war where guerilla forces face off with better equipped and tactically superior forces back by various powerful nations who can only work out their differences by backing feuding factions.

The threats and war declarations are literally just part of their propaganda to brainwash their own people. The problem is that many of the higher ups in their government were now also raised with such propaganda, and believe itbto be true themselves.

Can we just nuke this garbage ass country off the face of the planet and be done with it?

I'm usually not for this type of thing, but I am getting tired of hearing about their crap country.

Just nuke them and be done with it. No one would care. They offer nothing economically, culturally, or scientifically. They're like an unruly teenager who keeps getting caught making drugs in the basement and isn't stopping.

Yeah, I know, but I feel like it's worth noting those things. To be fair, a lot of people rely on the news to get their information on the international landscape, and if they choose an irresponsible news outlet who pushes this sort of stuff, the will believe the sort of "Chicken Little" comments you mentioned. It's just worth bringing up every time, even if it just inspires one person to dig a little deeper.

Why would anyone send troops to Australia anyway, let alone during WWII

Because island hoping was an intricate part of the WWII Pacific Theater. Not only was it important for establishing ports along the Pacific to deter Japanese invasion forces, but the Japanese had captured the Dutch East Indias and several other resource-rich islands that were fueling the Imperial war machine. By securing various islands, they could cut off Japan's source of oil and deny them the ability to build more weapons.

So why Australia? Well, moving troops takes resources. Austrailia is significantly closer to the Pacific islands than the continental US. On top of that, during a military campaign you want a nearby, secure location to mass troops so you can send them out in large, organized groups. If you send them by ship, they can easily be picked off and you can end up with a significantly weaker force than the one you dispatched.

Austrailia was also part of the British Commonwealth, which meant it was an allied port that needed defending and could provide resources and space to set up a secure military outpost. You have to remember too that at the time, airplanes had significantly shorter ranges, meaning that every single island they could set up an airstrip on helped.
