Because America started 200+ years ago. Civil rights era was like 50 years ago. Women in America by and large didn't start getting opportunities to be anything more then housewives until world war 2. And it's not like blatant racism and sexism just stopped once certain laws got off the books.

These programs are meant to level the playing field by giving us an advantage in things we were denied for 150 years. What we want is to be able to reach equality. What you want is to give nothing extra and thus maintain the advantage you've had for as long we were oppressed.

Some people take the idea way too far though. A black kid with millionare parents has way more advantages and opportunities than a poor white kid. Money matters more than race in America.

My mom was a victim of segregation and they had their house and business burned down by the KKK in Louisiana

So yes, white people literally did stop my mom from having equal playing field. She also watched her cousin get lynched.

She was able to forgive white people though and married my dad who is white. She doesnt harbor the type of hate that you do.

I think that white privilege is definitely a 'thing'. I think the difficulty with the concept is that people seem to think that it means that in all instances white people will be favored or never be made to suffer any deprivation or hardship. That's not what it means. I think, at a very abstract, generalized level, it means that whiteness is valued and is a social phenomenon that can confer benefit. It doesn't mean that White people can never experience prejudice or that Black people can never be successful.

Your grandparents had a level playing field, mine didn't. And thus they benefited whether it be through education or jobs they received while minorities weren't even considered. Thus they afforded your parents a better education and financial stability. Which your parents then passed on to you.

That set of circumstances isn't possible for 99% of minorities going back to that time period. Or are you so rooted in your beliefs that you refuse to admit your chances are better coming from a safe, stable environment? Theirs was better then, thus the advantage is now ours. As it should be.

And these pricks aren't gonna do that. Their model works for them. They don't have to confront any evidence that might undermine that model on a daily basis.
