it sucks but it's a job. the work is mostly pretty easy. hardest part would be if you have to work in the back unloading trucks. then if you're like me i couldn't be a cashier all day everyday. i get bored easy and like to have freedom to move around.

Unless you're in the back doing stocking/loading, it's mostly a customer service position in retail... So be prepared to deal with the Walmart customer base.

Be prepared for favoritism going on in the workplace and corporate not always making fair decisions. One of the worst decisions corporate made was this year all employees got a 2% increase regardless if they busted their butt or did the bare minimum to get by. I might also add in that the CEO got a multi-million dollar raise. I'm a customer service manager at my local Walmart, but that's because I don't really have anything else I can switch to that pays enough.

lol. unless you get into some sort of management position, the only thing they're gonna say about your employment tenure is "yes, he worked here". that's assuming that other prospective employers even bother calling. seeing Walmart on your resume is similar to seeing McDonald's

If you have a good work ethic it sucks. You'll be compelled to work hard and most people fuck around and make as much as you.

But, it's retail so it's not that hard.

That's not true, if you actually work hard and are dependable you can get promoted to a supervisor/lead position and get recognition for it. The job and pay will still suck but it's not hard to rise above the average minimum wage employee.

Which makes zero sense.

*I'm in a union and there are parts I definitely dislike. But if we could find a healthy balance between the two, people would be so much better off.

I used to work in the back unloading trucks but at night when you pull pallets to the floor be prepared to have chicks hit on you and ask for your number. I had a group of women come up to me and asked if I was single one time, wtf.

It's more like "the union takes your money with an large fee, and gets in the way of us giving you the best career possible, they only look after themselves, blah blah blah."

Thank the baby boomers for enjoying unions then letting them erode.

Work hard and management will exploit you. Do nothing and you get all the hours and get to do nothing. I'm a Support but,w e have 3 new associates that just flat out do nothing and management refuses to fire them.

Person A; Works in Toys takes 2-3 hour 15 min breaks. That's time theft and should be an auto-termination but, management don't care.

Person B: Works in SG and just walks around all over the store. Usually gets to do the closing walk with his manager friends.

Person C: Works in hardware and just randomly disappears and reappears whenever he feels like. He's been here for over a year and Management do not care he doesn't do anything.

Every store is different too. Some stores have a good management team, others are pretty bad. Don't work at a bad store. You won't get hours and you won't get a bonus. It's luck of the draw. Oh and don't get stuck on Cap 2 that's the team that unload the trucks. It's miserable and hard work. You'll always be short handed because, walmart hires the people they dont want on the sales floor for that position. They'll always be whining about the Truck not being fully unloaded in an insanely unrealistic time frame.

If you get promoted to a Department Manager spot you get $13 and a set schedule 6:30-3:30 but, be prepared to have too much to do and not nearly enough time to do it all or management to come and ruin your day by having you do some arbitrary task across the store. Oh, and Management will STILL despite full well knowing you were pulled ask why you didn't do your tasks in your department.

It's a good first job, one you can bet to get some workforce experience and whatnot, but make sure you avoid getting caught up in the promotions and that shit, because that's how people get stuck working the their whole lives.

Thats the department I work in and we all feel like we are Walmart's redheaded stepchild. Since we are always working when shift start to end with no chance to mingle like the other departments do. I only put up with it since it has good job security with guaranteed 40 hours and overtime is likley since they wont hire more people for it. If you looking for a full time position
TC join a cap team but if you want to be a part timer join any other postion except cart pusher or maitnence.

Get the Walmart job and then apply for a local govt job like janitor for a park or apply to be a garbage man. Pays better and you get benefits.

Then from there go to a trade shool

If you can actually get hired, it's fine. I failed the employment assessment test because I was too independent and hard working or something, so they wouldn't even consider my application >_>

Walmart has been trying to rapidly expand their e-commerce business to compete with Amazon. Surely they are hiring software engineers, data scientists, etc. to work on that aspect of their business. If you're going to work for Walmart, why not go for something that pays well?

Get into bartending. So many bars are willing to hire newbies and train you.

In college, I was pulling $400-$600 each night I worked on average.

In all fairness though, you are an attractive female, which one must admit does give you a big advantage in that specific role.

I would normally agree that it does play as an advantage. However, the best bartenders are the ones that make bank. I've watched chubby, sweaty, and abrasive bartenders (males) rake in the cash way more than I ever did because they were incredibly skilled.

A pretty face only goes so far. Great customer service lasts forever.

That makes sense, especially since you probably get a lot of your tips from regulars

They only test you if you will be using the machinery. e.g. Overnight, Automotive, Deli, Cart Pusher, ect.

If you are going to be on the floor a lot e.g. in Electronics, softlines, ect. they wont test you unless you get into an accident in the store.

Back when I was hired a long time ago, after the second interview they immediately gave me a referral to do a drug test at a specific place. Maybe because they had already decided at the time I was going to be hired pending the drug test.
