Straight guys I mean. Why is listening to dudes considered manly and listening to girls considered "gay?" Why wouldn't a straight guy, someone who's attracted to girls, want to listen to girls with beautiful voices?

Some men's stuff branding is frankly kind of insulting. Like on the back of my last stick of old spice deodorsnt it said something like "Contains 'atomic robots' that 'shoot lasers' at your 'stench monsters' and replaces them with good-smelling 'scent elves.'"

It's like a bunch of women were sitting in a conference room trying to figure out how to appeal to men and they came up with the verbal equivalent of Mulan's "manly walk":

my favorite one was one i bought a Men's One a Day multivitamin bottle and written on the bottle it says "Converts food to FUEL". Like men are so embarrassed to take a vitamin until this one makes it sound like a race car, so it's ok for men to take lol.

a lot of 'girl' music does not have 'a beautiful voice'. modern pop is heavily synthesized.

lady gaga has a larger demographic cross section because she has an excellent voice and while she uses synthesizers, she sounds good in the portions that are not heavily influenced by them

Target demographic is utter crap. People only feel that way because they want to seem "cool" and "part of the crowd". I'm a black guy that loves in the inner city. I don't listen to rap (gorillaz aside) at all and hate "inner city" movies/TV shows. It doesn't matter what something is geared toward. If I don't like it, I don't like it. In fact, I mostly listen to "female girly music".

I get what your point is with targeted products, but that doesn't mean jack to some people. But then again, you are technically right as products and companies worth millions can verify. So forget everything I just said.

I guess for me it's music and not poetry or prose for a reason. A pretty voice and catchy tune are more vital to music than lyrics. Lyrics are supplementary, melody and sound are essential.

I'm not talking about lyrics only, though. I like bands; people that actually play music.

Too many female singers hide behind ghost writers and producers and take all the credit. It's just not about the music to them.

And I'd argue lyrics are just as vital a part of the art. If you have something to say- something important enough to sing about- then do it right.

But that's just it. It's not from the heart. It's not expression. They're just doing their jobs. And that's fine, the music industry won't change, but I'm just not about that.
