I'm not super accustomed to the genre, but it's one I'm interested in. So far I've played Gradius for the NES, Gate of Thunder for the Turbografx CD, and Galaga, Space Invaders, R-Type, Raiden & Sky Shark in arcades. I'd say Gate of Thunder's probably my favorite of the ones I've played... even though I've yet to even get past the first stage...

Time Crisis 2 if it counts. By "shoot 'em up" I mean 2D scrolling horizontal/vertical shooters, not light gun shooters or rail shooters (Star Fox, Panzer Dragoon, etc.). Triggerheart Exelica is the only one I've put a lot of time into. I've tried out Deathsmiles and a couple different Touhou games, but not for very long.
