The second one wasn't so bad but yes there was definitely a decline. Like a lot of trilogy's they tend to get worse with each entry.

Yeah, "island full of dinosaurs" is sort of like the plot of jaws. It's terrifying in the first one because no one realizes how bad things can go. After that, the entire cast has to take their idiot pills in order to be in danger again.

Like, "Gee, there is an island full of ravenous, genetically mutated dinosaurs! Let's go try to capture some with nets and tranquilizer guns and bring them to one of the most populated cities on earth! What could possibly go wrong?".

Jurassic World was leagues better than the other sequels, though.

JW was great. Not as fun as the first, but still better than 2 and 3.

3 was definitely the worse of the original trilogy. Sam Neill as Alan Grant was good but the rest of the cast was completely forgettable. I liked it but its nowhere close to the original.

In my opinion:

1 > 3 > 2 > 4

3 only gets nudged ahead of 2 for having less focus on the bad plot. It's like they accepted that people only care about the action scenes. That scene in 2 with the unassuming heroic bald guy trying to save the yo-yo truck was great though until he died. :( That guy was awesome.

Yeah, I agree. 2 probably would get a higher rating if it wasn't so weirdly paced. The first half and second half feel like different movies. When they successfully capture the T-Rex and put it on the boat it felt like the movie was over, only for it to continue even longer.

There's only so many times you can induce a scenario where people intentionally enter woefully unprepared situations relating to dinosaurs. *SPOILER ALERT*

Okay, first movie made a lot of sense. The research cost a lot of money. Getting cooperation with Costa Rican government, etc. This leads to less of the budget remaining for staffing, so they run a skeleton crew that's mostly automated.

Spells an allegory for the dangers of automation when those failsafes...well fail.

Second movie...okay a bunch of opportunists go back to a second island where apparently they were bred before moving them to the park as attractions. They want to move the park back to the mainland because presumably it would be easier to manage than some far off island.

Spells an allegory for the dangers of transporting dangerous animals and the morals of zoo-type attractions.

Third movie...okay apparently the world should have already known about the failed original park AND the attempts to make a new one in San Diego. So some tourists lose their kid on the island and there is a rescue mission. I guess the premise isn't horrible, but the movie definitely played out like a B movie horror flick.

The remake was a nostalgia cash in. Yay, look, all the problems of the original park have been solved. We've created a dinosaur utopia...but then no we didn't...same mistakes.

If the JW sequel tries for another park I'm going to flip a table.

First time I saw 3 I kinda felt like "meh that was just ok" but that was also cutting it a lot of slack for casting that one dude (I don't know the actor's name but I think his name in film was Kirby), making the cringiest line in the film the freaking catchphrase (That's a very bad idea), and not having a T-Rex.

But the last time I saw it, I was like you know what there's no excuse for that.

Really? It was a Steven Speilberg film about dinosaurs with tons of practical effects and cutting edge (at the time) CGI, a schmoozy orchestral theme song, cute kids, tons of action, a massive merchandising campaign behind it, and a hammy anti-villain. The book it was based on may have not been such a 'blockbuster' in that sense, but the movie definitely was a popcorn flick.

A mindless popcorn movie = forgettable action film that will be forgotten in a year if not earlier.

Jurassic Park had an enormous impact on culture, from the science of ancient DNA to movie special effects. The art style of the JP Dinos is still used as the standard today. It's rated 8.1 on IMDB. It also won three Oscars and John Williams composed arguably his best score.

I disagree on the definition. I'd say Titanic is a popcorn flick as well, and it won its share of awards. Jurassic Park also didn't really advance science; the plot actually falls apart with the slightest bit of scientific scrutiny (for example, the dinosaurs don't reflect anything that existed in nature, and DNA has a half-life that means it would not survive preserved in amber).

This is why I really hate zombie plots.

Zombies are actually not scary at all, for the civilian, yes, but get some military with assault rifles, helicopters and tanks and they're absolutely harmless.

It's also why I thought people complaining about Resident Evil 5 and 6 being more action-y was silly. Biological terrorism is a very established precedent by those games and most of the cast are members of a anti-biological weapons special forces members and Leon/Chris/Piers/Sherry/Jill/Sheva kill zombies for a damn living. How can you justify the "trapped alone with zombies" plot from that point unless you have completely new protagonists every single game fall into the same situation the others did previously? It would just be asinine.
