How big is your company?

Also he might make his real money in shares and quarterly bonuses.

It's not CEO of Walmart kind of money but that does come to over $200k at normal full time, which he probably does at least full time and a half. Though if he's CEO, he's probably salaried and just divided his salary by 2000 to tell you an hourly wage.

As CEO he's probably counting that as a regular 40 hour week but he probably does closer to 90.

What you probably don't see is him answering emails at 5.30am, and working saturdays and sundays, and generally spending most evenings doing some kind of work.

I could be totally off base here, but the "CEO doesn't ever do any actual work" stereotype is one I've never understood, because every CEO I've ever been friends with pretty much lives and breathes their work at the expense of every other aspect of their lives. Can't even have a drink with them at the bar without it turning into a business development brain storming session.

CEOs are usually greedy fucks, bro. I know for a fact my CEO uses the business' profit to buy personal stuff and not from his own salaries that he pays himself. I mean it's his company I guess, he can do whatever he wants.

CEOs usually get huge ownership perks when they get hired on. And if it is a public company, the salary is just based off industry standard, they make their real money in stock and bonuses. Also if it's a public company you can look on their public filings to see exactly how much all the executives make

You're delusional if you think being CEO is a cushy part time job. There, I can make grandiose off-base statements too.

I've never met a lazy CEO. The ones I know personally are all like how I described. They work hard, but take privileges that come with the position. They also tend to be giant assholes.

This is my point. I've been to some of those mid work day golfing trips. They're not really all that relaxed at all. The entire thing is the scene of a cat-and-mouse bargaining game between vested parties. Obviously, sometimes they're just an excuse to get out of the office.

Look, I'm not saying CEOs don't just take personal days from time to time, but they generally pay for it in other ways. They're almost always on call. Imagine getting a phonecall on a sunday bbq because someone is trying to sue the company. That's the shit CEOs take home with them every day.

Oh my, the suffering of being responsible for a company. I feel sooooo bad for them, the weight on their shoulders that they must burden is unreal. Surely only select individuals could possibly stomach the responsibilities of ensuring a company is running and growing and have to juggle those with the freedom to set their own hours, the perks of an enormous salary among others.

The reasonable position to have here is that it comes with massive perks but incredible risk. If a company you work for folds you're out of a job. If a company folds that you have a stake in then you're at the risk of legal issues for the rest of your life.

You want to be CEO and have that social status and the earnings that come with it, then you take on the burden of being personally responsible for every person who works for you as a 24/7 job. Most people don't seem to understand that, apparently.

Correct. I work closely with CEOs of some Fortune 1000 and Fortune 500 companies. They are not often in the office, but I have them on Skype and they are literally answering emails from me at 4 am, skyping me at 11 pm, etc.

The ones I work with, at least, do not seem to ever stop.

Voice of reason. Every CEO I've ever worked with is a workaholic to the point where every facet of their life - their friends, family, hobbies - all revolve around a basic cost/benefit towards the growth of their business.
