Everything is calm right now, he just turned 13, and aside from being a little fat, he's fairly active and healthy. He's sleeping next to my other dog, who just turned 5.

But curiosity got the better of me and I ended up looking up lifespans for his breed (Shih Tzu). Up to 16 years. Sure, there are varying conditions that could extend that, but nothing's guaranteed, of course.

I lost my dad in 2010 and my grandmother in 2012. I'm not really in the mood for any goodbyes anytime in the immediate future from anyone, ya know? I've been up thinking about whether or not I'd wanna eventually let him be or put him down, whether I'd have the guts to be there or not, what to do afterwards, all the things you should've be thinking of when you're trying to sleep.

Yeah, I don't know why I'm suddenly all stressed out about things when there's literally nothing for me to worry about with him. I'm planning on taking them to the vet soon for a checkup and I guess that's where my worries are coming from.

.....maybe I'm overthinking it and should play this instead:

Life is a cycle of birth and death. Enjoy the present and take him for a walk, grill him a steak, and snuggles

this, i worry about the problem as it happens.
not panic today.

i too probably will face that same issue with my own dog in about 4 to 8 years. my dogs life expectancy for the breed is 12 to 14. currently at 6 years. it's a pretty massive dog for a pitbull mix.

Yeah, I think I've gotten over it now.

He's not worried about it, neither should I.
