Atlas shrugged is a book about how the "few awesome epic exceptional alpha men that matter" (so, millionaires) are supporting the "freeloading loser leeches who mooch of them" (everyone else), and Galt is shoving that down out throats all the time

He's not shoving anything down anyone's throats, because he took his "anything" and went off to the mountains to write a bigass boring speech about taking his ball and going home.

He means Galt the poster. He actually believes in the bloated love letter to anarcho capitalism that Ayn Rand called Atlas Shrugged

It actually is an effective warning of what eventually happens as a welfare state bloats up, stretched out over several hundred pages of meandering pontification.

i can leave a more detailed response later

but the tl;dr response to all the people who are challenging the notion is - regardless of how unsavory it appears, it's something that we'll need to implement sooner or later. preferably sooner rather than later.

realistically UBI would be replacing essentially every social program

one of the flaws in my opinion is that a lot of people need more than that to keep things together, and the current system allows for that (medicaid paying for expensive medical treatments, for example)

if you start tinkering with it to adjust based on need you're pretty much just trying to streamline what we do already

Much like WIC, a cottage industry will quickly emerge to exploit it.
