It feels like they really tried to make a good game, unlike the obvious cash grabs that were the Xillias and the horror that was Zestiria.

Haven't played Xillia 2, but I didn't think the first Xillia was bad. Haven't played zestiria either but haven't heard anything good about it, so I don't plan to.

Recently played Tales of Graces F, and while combat is fun, the dialogue and story is trash from the get go and never gets any better. I'm about 40 hours in, finishing up some side quests before the final dungeon and have absolutely no desire to play through it again just because the story and dialogue were such shit.

The power of friendship! It was definitely the cheesiest Tales game I ever played because of the theme. Had my favourite battle system though.

Berseria is fun enough, but I found it really easy. It was really manageable to play on the highest difficulties as you unlocked them, with maybe only a handful of fights that caused problems and only because I wanted to avoid using items for max grade.

Pretty much. The story is absolutely forgettable and the characters suck. Something about save Richard bcuz he's our friend and somewhere along the line Malik has to fight a former friend or some shit. The whole Lamda thing just seems like a last minute "oh fuck we need a final boss... wait!! That thing that kicked the party's asses as small children! We'll say it can destroy worlds, possess human bodies and that chick that had amnesia and no real character development? Yeah she was made to kill it. Alright pretty sure we got a finished game here guys lol."

I'm playing the Tales of Graces + Symphonia bundle. Literally stopped playing Graces after about 30 hours and played Symphonia again for a bit.

It was refreshing to say the least. The characters are actually likeable and while I'm not very far in the game (still releasing seals) there's some things I had completely forgotten about that made me LOL like the skit with Lloyd's thoughts on angels and when Raine slaps him for his smartass commentary.

average at best like every other tales game. The only reason why it got more attention is because of the recent lackluster Zestiria

I agree with this sentiment. All I could think about while playing it was how much I wanted to be done with it so I could continue playing NieR
