I'm not talking about fun or happiness. This is basically career success, family, things like that.

Post comments as well, if you want. Pick the option that best describes you. Be honest! I can't tell if most people on CE have lives that are doing well, or doing really badly. I'd say I'm a 3, with very few prospects and already in my 30s. I don't know where it all went wrong. A sad string of retail jobs, to say nothing of being unemployed on and off for years.

luckily for you, most girls don't have "emotionally available" on their checklists so you'll keep getting chances

The big things I have been trying to work on is not making girls I date feel stupid, even though I only get into relationships with women I really do think are smart, but I'm a typical know-it-all CEman and I was good at debate and the likes in HS and know how to keep my calm when other people are getting emotional.

So I've been trying to be more verbal about the things I appreciate about the girls I date as well as not being so prideful and being more willing to admit when I am wrong. It just isn't something that has ever come natural to me.

weird to place these things on a numerical scale and to automatically associate marriage with increasing positivity

but I am doing ok, have managed self-sufficiency after graduation, have a growing 401k at an acceptable job with people I enjoy far more than the work itself, and a long term romantic relationship that seems to be working from my perspective, since we have considered supplanting our lives together elsewhere

less tangibly, I am making diet, exercise, and spending strides for the day to day benefit, which has all in all increased my happiness

Well, the replies are an interesting mix. Roughly equal between people who think they are doing well, and doing badly. I am VERY incredulous about some responses, though, I mean a few people votes for 9 or 10, and either they're lying, like it quite often the case on this board, or they didn't quite understand what those answers mean. 10 is meant to be someone who makes at least $100k or $200k a year, is really well-educated, and probably lives in a 4 or 5 bedroom house. I think though, the people who gave low numbers comfort me, and make me feel not quite so bad about my own life.

I make 6 figures and would definitely not want to flex out to live in a 4-5 bedroom house. 3 bedroom 2.5 bath is plenty for 2 people. I like to save for retirement.

However, I selected a 9 on the poll.

What do you do, Asherlee? I don't remember you ever saying.

I used to own a tree trimming/tree removal business. Sold that about 3-4 years ago. Got back into tech working as a senior project manager for an IT firm. Was making about $85k/year there, but the hours and stress were ridiculous. Recently left (well mostly left) and joined a new firm in April that pushed me over the $100k/year mark + benefits and we are in the talks of starting another company with the owner that I work for. He wants to create an ad agency.

I also consult for the company that I just left. So, this make my income pretty nice right now. I just still work almost all the time. But it isn't terribly taxing, right now I'm loading an application into one of our CRMs to test out a territory map. While it loads up, I can post on CE.

Why'd you sell the tree trimming business? How much did it sell for if you don't mind me asking (obviously don't answer if you don't want to)

It was too stressful and the down season sucked. I also didn't have any experience owning a business and could have done a lot differently. Decided to cut my losses and move on. I did not really gain much of a significant profit when I sold.

Just out of curiosity, what are some things you would have done differently? Be as brief or detailed as you'd like.

Doing amazing 9.

Family pulls 7 figures a year
Won national championships on my road to a world title
Have an amazing supportive family

Only thing keeping it from a 10 is having kids but not ready for that since I want to keep competing.

- Tried to get more annual contracts with customers
- Would have not tried to keep so many full time workers on during the off season
- Charged more (I was too nice)
- Looked for an investor or partner

Thanks for answering. Makes sense.
