Recent events in my life have led me to ask this question. Personally, i think between a male-female friendship, the male will, given enough time, fall for the female *eventually*.

I have several male friends who have female friends they don't have feelings for so I'm inclined to believe that anyone with a decent social outlet will easily find this to be true.

But go ahead, put a straight man and a straight woman, who are attracted to each other, together in close proximity for a lengthy period of time. I think this probably partly depends on the status of the individuals. I am married and have many female friends that I regularly see in person via hobbies and sports I play. But if I was single, would I be developing desires for some of them? Quite possibly.

Yes, it's entirely possible, I've had more than a few female friends with no issues whatsoever.

Admittedly, it probably helps a great deal that I keep things completely platonic. I never made moves on them and they certainly never pursued me.

Sure.

Firstly if you're not attracted to each other it's possible.

Also if you are but respect the reasons why you are not together, it's fine. The fact that you would hypothetically have sex with somebody doesn't mean you can't have a non-sexual relationship with them.

Here's my two cents.

I think that if you're just talking acquaintances and whatnot, they definitely can. Close friendships though? Not really. But it can go both ways between who falls for who.

With that said, people can definitely set aside their feelings and continue the friendship, it's not like "Well one of us has developed feelings, it's all or nothing now b****."

You say that, yet the divorce rate is massive. And that's only counting marriages, specifically relationships where the spouse finds out. Are there exceptions? Sure. But would I bet money on it? Fuck no.

Sure they can. I have female friends I have no attraction to whatsoever, and even the one or two friends I am into, I've tried asking them out, they said no, and we're still great friends months later.

Attraction doesn't make you not friends.

The way I see it is that they can be just friends, but for many people it's very easy for a bunch of fuckers to start planting ideas into either persons head that will eventually ruin the friendship out of confusion or paranoia.
