I do love cycling lands. Really wish they would print the full cycle of them, but ah well.

Aven Mindcensor is getting a standard reprint too which is pretty nice. Might be nice as a way to hose all of the cheap colour fixing flying around. That Worldly Tutor and Attune with Aether are looking less impressive. All we need now is a spell that removes counters from players and a permanent that targets graveyards.

Cycle Lands are great, I really hope they print the enemy ones in Hour of Devastation.

Not really feeling Amonkhet that much, I'm not too big on the top-down sets. The masterpieces look horrendous, which is really disappointing because there's some great cards and great artwork in the batch.

Standard, maybe. From what I understand, Modern and Legacy have been fine aside from Modern briefly getting fucked by Eldrazi. The modern player base seems pretty happy aside from Twin memes

Also I'm in the minority if people who actually like the Invocations, I guess. Only gripe is I wish the art was better. The name's are hard to read but I dunno, it looks interesting and the actual playable part of the card is fine. Compare to stuff like Phyrexian Elesh Non which looks super sweet but is 100% unplayable, it's a fair compromise.

Yeah the spoilers seem underwhelming today since the god is the only rare. It looks good as an obvious aggro finisher, but that's about it.

The Cartouche subtype is silly.

I'm not really excited about the red god at all, 5/4 for 4 just doesn't seem impressive when you're dealing with Gideon and Saheeli standard. The drawback is very real for a creature that is only slightly above curve, and while you do have access to some solid madness cards and Key to the City where I'm not worried about the frequency of getting it off in that shell, that same deck has Bloodhall Priest and Incorrigble Youths for 3 mana which are probably just better if you want to beat down.

It may be better to look at it as a manasink turning your extra draws into shocks, but the best manasink in standard is Walking Ballista, and if I'm pouring my mana into that, it's probably dealing with the opponent faster than Red God.

Power level aside, if all the gods end up look this one, I think this is a big miss on Wizard's part for the casual crowd. There's nothing interesting or unique about this the way that there were with the Theros gods. It's just a Legendary creature. I feel like at the very least they should have given them some kind of unique border treatment to make them feel special.

On the upside, the awful font on the Invocations makes it look like Hazoret the Pervert, so that's a plus.

Still not sure how good it is though, these are tough to evaluate. Having 7+ cards is tougher than having 1 or less, but the payoff for the blue one is better. I dunno.

Ruling on split cards has changed.

They are now always the CMC of both halves combined anywhere except on the stack.

No more Expertise into Breaking//Entering, no more Brain in a Jar into Beck//Call, no more cascading into Boom and casting Bust, and no more Wear//Tear ruining your hopes and dreams when flipped by a Counterbalance.

I'm... not sure how I feel about this. Or why they brought it up now.

It's brought up now because Aftermath cards are split cards, and now Expertise + split cards will be in Standard. It sounds like they got feedback from judges and didn't want to deal with that headache until those sets both rotate.

It really sucks since there were entire decks built around it. It's obviously a better rule, but I think it's something they should have changed much earlier. Especially considering they would have known that combo would be in standard a year or two before set release.

From a power level for limited perspective it makes complete sense.

They're all reasonable cards on the topside with "Draw a card, but except for drawing a land or a do nothing, draw a powerful common."

I guess. Even powerlevel-wise they still don't feel quite rare for me. The mono-colored ones, sure, but the allied ones seems like they could just be very good uncommons.

New Lilly only looks bad because she got spoiled after 3 mana Platinum Angel Gideon. It's a 5 mana reanimation spell that gains you a couple of life as a worst case scenario. That's still fine.
