Hm....I would lament the loss of my Genesis and to a lesser extent the N64, but I don't use them much. I'm guessing my relevant collection (including console) could be easily replaced for somewhere in the $500-750 range (disregarding the stuff I have in my collection but probably would never play again anyway). Factor in the sentimental value of the Genesis, the aggravation of replacing the PS3 collection, and the loss of the collection I've built that I wouldn't bother replacing....

I could probably go for a few grand.

I don't even know then. I have about eight full PS2 memory cards full of memories of that era.

what's the status on games that I'm developing myself? it would take a lot of money to convince me to destroy all of the hard work I put into making a game, but I'd probably consider it if the value was high enough to make up for the "lost time"

if you're not counting stuff like that and I just have to destroy the actual games/systems I own, eh. there are a few things where I'd be annoyed that I lost my saves but nothing major. the thing is, why would I just destroy everything I own to get the same amount of money back, right? Obviously I'd want to cut some sort of a profit off of doing all this. then you'd have to account for gas money or shipping costs involved in getting the items back into my possession (the ones I would care to replace anyway). additionally, you'd have to consider replacing rare games that have gone up in price since I bought them and would be difficult to find.

I'd probably settle for about 10,000 without thinking too much about it. my gaming collection isn't that large but I do have some things that would be difficult to replace. plus I'm not going to go through the work of destroying a bunch of stuff just to get the same value of the items back in cash (and losing my precious saved data) -- that makes no sense.

Ha, I actually hadn't though about the destroying them part. I guess snapping all the discs, smashing cartridges with hammers, etc. That sounds like a lot of work, so I'll throw another grand on there for the sweat and tears.

Since this is a fictional scenario anyway, can't we just have a superstrong magical elf woman break them all for us?

I would never do it.

For the right price I might sell it, but there's fewer and fewer copies of the old 8- and 16-bit classics going around and it wouldn't be right to just destroy them.

As long as my laptop doesn't get destroyed, just the games erased & steam account gone, I'd probably settle for, say, 2k above the price it cost me to get all this stuff. I have no idea how much it is though so let's say 10k.
