"Nintendo president Satoru Iwata believes that the numerous years Sony and Microsoft have spent developing their online platforms has left Nintendo behind and that rushing to "overcome or catch up" to them wouldn't be a smart strategy."
Good to know that they're taking online gaming seriously with the Wii U. "It's too tough to get something good, so we won't bother".

Thinking Luigi and WAAAA > Pokemon Trainers was dumb, and Pokemon rocks. In other news, Valve is a pretty f***ing terrible company, let's be honest.
Brawl has probably the worst online in the history of games

It seems like eons since the time Nintendo dominated multplayer. Competent online could give any Nintendo console the funnest multplayer experience out there with first party titles alone.
in short eff this ess

Brawl has an online mode?
I played it recently for the lulz
Took about 3 minutes to join another game that already had 3 people (ALWAYS a bad sign)
We were on final destination, everyone kept to their regions and had specific jobs, and it was basically a hardcore 3 on 1.
So I left and went back in. 2 minutes later I run into 3 people again.
These people were also triple teaming, but were far less competent. I ended up winning in sudden death (Yes, 1 on 3 in sudden death) because I tripped into a killing blow late in the match.
One left like 5 seconds after it ended, and the other two followed pretty quickly.
The next 5 minutes were total deadspace.
Brawl has amazing online!

This only negatively effects me in the event this kills the console. Otherwise... /shrug
Strange stance to take on this. XBL and PSN are bigger than just online multiplayer. What else are they good for? PSN and Xbox Live Arcade? (Or, erm, whatever it's called. >_>) Probably whatever else you mention besides that won't effect me personally, but I could of course be mistaken.

XBL and PSN are entire online platforms--the stores, the content, how games update, the delivery of those updates. Online multiplayer is part of that, but the platform is much more. WiiWare and the eShop are Nintendo's equivalent, and both are rather poor in comparison. XBLA alone is one reason to own a 360, and it shows how significant Microsoft has been in shaping the online space for consoles. Nintendo doesn't need to copy them, necessarily, but there are certain standard features they should be trying to get with the WiiU.
Well, I obviously can't argue with that. I don't deny it in the least! It just doesn't mean much to me outside of, "ah, neat. Good job, game company, in making this service... quite serviceable." And then I move on.
Really, I just own consoles to play games. WiiWare and the eShop could use a few more games -- so if that's part of what you're saying, then granted -- but they're good enough for me.

Weird! I guess if you stick to retail more often than not, that makes sense. Improving their online platform is one of the biggest things I wanted to see from Nintendo with the WiiU. The 3DS eShop is a mess, in my mind, and I hope they have more effort put into the WiiU equivalent.

Well, I'm quite prepared to bow down to the probable fact that you're simply far more experienced in these matters! If I paid more attention, I'd probably feel similarly.

maybe it's weird, but I kinda like Nintendo's stance. I don't need a third platform that is the exact same content-wise. it'd be cool if they featured online but didn't try to just mimic xbl and psn.
From: Jeff Zero | #007 Nintendo still dominates multiplayer for me. Ehhhhh, Its close for me thanks to the existence of 2 player Musuo games on the PS3.
