I'd somehow convinced myself waiting for this game that it was going to be a holy union of Dark Souls gameplay and Skyrim world building. After that it's hard not to be a little disappointed, but only because my expectations were pretty unrealistic in retrospect. I've been having a lot of fun with it though, and that's all you can really ask from a game.

I think it's a $40 or under game for me. I want to play it, but I already have some great games in the backlog like Skyrim, Dark Souls and Mass Effect 3. I really wanted to be excited for it, but most reviews are saying the story isn't anything special, which is my main gripe with Skyrim. It's really hard for me to keep playing a game if I don't care about any of the events or characters.
I've been playing for maybe 12 hours or so and the story has been pretty mediocre. Every single cutscene features Arisen staring at something or someone with a confused or horrified look on their face.
If you've got Dark Souls waiting to play you can definitely wait on Dragon's Dogma. Keep in mind Dark Souls does absolutely nothing to tell you about its story if you aren't looking for it. There's a pretty sizeable amount of lore and background there, but if you aren't reading item descriptions and talking with the few NPCs around the story is very sparse.
