Because I'm pretty sure he's losing by a fair bit more than 8 points in a lot of those other 48 states.

In what universe are those states some of the most Republican in the country? Places like Utah and Tennessee are the most Republican states. All three of these states went to Obama, which means at least 22 states are more Republican than they are (as that's how many McCain won).
