Steve's reply to my email.

Hi,

Thanks for the email.

You're not the first to suggest a Kickstarter for TimeSplitters 4. I'll explain why I don't think it's possible: firstly, as you know, Crytek now owns the rights to TimeSplitters so they would need to do it. Secondly (and mainly) I don't believe that it is possible to raise a big enough fund using Kickstarter. To do TimeSplitters justice, the fund would need to be something like five times as large as the largest Kickstarter fund to date. It just isn't possible to make first person shooters for less money than that any more due to the size and complexity of the content. A smaller game could be created for less money, but that would be a disappointing and unworthy sequel that wouldn't do justice to the previous games. Maybe something will change in future that will make it more viable, but for now I just can't see it happening. It's part of the reason that I chose to get out of that part of the games industry.

We appreciate your enthusiasm. It's always great to hear how much people have enjoyed the games that we've worked on.

Regards

Makes sense.
I still think there's a big enough market for the game, so I hope someone goes for it in the next year(s).
