My friend wants a new laptop around the 500 dollar range. I was wondering if anyone here knew of any good deals going on at the moment or any good sites to check. Thanks.

You can check around basic sites like newegg or tigerdirect for sales and stuff on refurbs etc. Ebay is pretty decent too if he/she is more dedicated and is willing to wait around and try to snipe up a good auction.

A a lot of retailers will have good deals on new laptops at that range too. My friend purchased a pretty decent machine for 400 (100 dollars off from a sale for something), and does not have to deal with it being a refurb or discontinued product.

Also, each brand has good and bad models, but stay away from Acer and Asus.

Alright I looked around with him, and while this is Acer this one looked pretty good.

Someone on Tom's Hardware had this to say, last week

If you don't have a burning need to get one now -
it's worth waiting two weeks and change for more info on the Intel Ivy Bridge models. And about 3 weeks extra for the AMD Trinity models

So maybe wait a month?
