my phone contract just ran out and my provider is doing the iphone for $100 if you do another 3 year contract

are there notably good games for the iPhone? how does FFT perform on that platform?

I have no idea, buuut I gotta point out when buying via amazon wireless and whatnot, you can get lots of very cool smartphones droids or whatnot free with a contract.

Speaking of iPhones, here's something that's been bothering me:

How is the iPhone 4S NOT the iPhone 5? The only way "iPhone 4" was actually the fourth was if iPhone 3G was "iPhone 2" and iPhone 3GS was "iPhone 3". So how do we go up a number from 3G to 3GS, but NOT from 4 to 4S? Especially when, as I understand it, the changes from 4 to 4S are actually MORE significant than those from 3G to 3GS?

I mean I understand it's a marketing thing and they can call it whatever they like, but all the press and Apple fans reacted to the 4S unveiling with disappointment that it "wasn't iPhone 5", when they could just as easily have called the exact same product iPhone 5 and nobody would have had a problem with it.

Go with the 32. I have a 16 gig iPhone 4 and am at pretty much no risk of filling it with ~2000 songs and a whole bunch of apps

If you're going to get an iPhone, why not the 4S?

If you get an iPhone 4 now, two years into your three your contract you're going to be using a four year old phone crippled by later iOS updates. Those prices look pretty cheap for iPhone 4S's, so make sure you're looking at the right one.

are there Androids with comparable storage sizes? cuz my music library is like 90GBs and I'd love to have it all on the phone. most of that is FLAC so it'll get smaller when I transfer it over with Foobar, but that's still a lot of music.

Android phones vary, but almost any in the past year will field 16gb internally and just about all of them have a micro sd slot, so you can upgrade the storage that way. Iphones do not have microsd, so if storage is your concern apple isn't for you as it's easy to get 32gb for 25 or less, even right now.


I'm also wondering if you have a link to know what phones you're talking about, as it's the 4,not 4s, which tends to be in these prices. Don't want to confuse the two as, despite being similar, one is notably weaker than the other.

Oh I thought you were in Canada, which is why you were listing 3 year prices (The standard in Canada). On Bell (Canada's largest network) a 32 gig iPhone 4S on a 3 year is $270. -_-

Also, as much as I prefer Androids, you should get an iPhone. Android's are for people who want mini computers, iPhone's are for people who want gaming devices.

Okay, I know nothing on Alaska carriers or what rules you guys have, or what networks work. Would have to check that to know better, and yeah 4s. Still, a 3 year contract is very painful.

As for gaming, both can do it and Android being 50 percent of the global market means it'll do it easier in the long term. Also being a mini computer is helpful if you want emulation. The biggest reason why, for phones, you'd want Android, is the screen. Game on a 3.5 inch, iphones, or on something from 4 inches to 4.7 on Android, with a micro hdmi port.

To be honest, I've had a lot of problems with my 4S. Battery problems, randomly turning off, and now the sound is really poor when making calls, so I'm going to hang to get it fixed today.

Checked out what phones they offer and wow. They don't have any top of the line phones out today sold through them, which is a shame. The best Android phone they got is the milestone x2, which is really a renamed DROID x2. Dual core with 1ghz, 512mb ram will do most everything wanted today just fine, and it has a micro hdmi port too. But between it and the 4s, your concern comes down to whether you want a 4.3 inch screen or a 3.5. Would say the 4s is better between the two and it's more recent along with better support. 32gb 4s for free is sadly your best deal if you plan to stay on the plan you're on and already pay for the data.

That said, if the milestone x2 doesn't lock you in for 3 years but less, then you can consider it based on a slightly worse but very much so capable phone with a much bigger screen and less control by the carrier with the contract. You may have to work on the phone a bit to maximize the potential it has too. If tweaking and tinkering with it is fine then it should be able to surpass the 4s, but if you don't want the work or mind the time you'll be stuck with the carrier, 4s. Just make sure you can upgrade the phone in full every 2 years still.
