Well back in the day these sort of shows would present the more natural conclusion to the issue very bluntly and boringly, then proceed to sensationalize the kooky explanation, and then say YOU DECIDE while obviously expecting you to believe the sensational side of the story.

What makes Ancient Aliens so groundbreaking is that they REPLACE the natural conclusion with ANOTHER kooky conclusion (told relatively boringly), then counter THAT with ANOTHER kooky conclusion told sensationally.

I mean, when you spend half of a show outlining how it could easily be perceived that Bigfoot is an alien experiment left behind, and then BRUSH THAT OFF and be like "Pssht, no way, clearly WE are the experiment and THEY are the natives," that is outstanding television.
