I was thinking - a lot of us here love this game. We should all commit to a playthrough where we do something we haven't done before. If you haven't done all the SCCs, you might attempt one and post your playthrough experience here as you go. Or you might commit to playing through LFT. Or maybe just a normal run through vanilla.

Post if interested! I started a run through LFT a while back but dropped it because stuff came up. Thinking I'll probably finish it here.

Maybe I'll play through the game without making Ramza a Monk for once.

I have never not done that.

The most entertaining run I've done in a long time (and I've done many runs) was a LFT playthrough with a Mime in the party. Ended up being enjoyable enough where by the end I was wishing I had done two Mimes. Really fun class to mess around with.

SCCs always seemed a bit boring to me since my favorite part of FFT is customization. Forfeiting that and constraining your entire party to be duplicates of each other just isn't for me. I did enjoy the Random SCC though, where before each story fight you randomly select a class and you play the next story fight (and all fights after that up until the next story fight) under SCC rules for the selected class. To avoid grinding, use a gameshark to unlock everything and give max JP. Not really a challenge playthrough (though gold management is a pain), but enjoyable.

I've been playing through this for the first time on and off for quite a while. I'm somewhere in Chapter 2, though I forget where actually. The recent sale of War of the Lions on PSN made me start playing it again without needing the UMD.

If anyone is playing up the PSP version, make sure you get the lag fix patch if you haven't already!

I keep telling people to go with all katanas in FFXII, and recreate Seven Samurai (1954)

Like, reenact the scenes and everything

but no one cares

I'd be down, but I'm very under-read about what types of "advanced" FFT runs are common. I know about SCC, but what's LTC? And are there others I should know about? Because SCC doesn't seem like it's for me.

LFT is a hack that modifies a lot of stuff to try to make the jobs more balanced and changes up some battles to make them more interesting, while still staying somewhat true to the original experience and not going completely absurd with annoying types of difficulty.

Laggy Fantasy Tactics:
http://www.rpgdl.com/lft

It's a very fun mod to play around with if regular FFT is getting a bit routine. It's a bit harder, but it isn't designed as a difficulty patch. From the Foreward:

LFT is a modification of Final Fantasy Tactics, making some dramatic changes to its gameplay while preserving non-gameplay aspects (the story, characters, etc. have all been left unmodified). Through all these changes I would like to believe that I have preserved the spirit of the gameplay itself – the vast array of options it offers, the tactical potential it has always boasted over most SRPGs out there, and above all else, the things that make it such an enjoyable game that has weathered the test of time admirably.

LFT has three main goals:

1. To improve the usability and balance in all aspects of gameplay, without removing options or impeding on personal preference whenever possible. (classes, items, etc.)
2. To reduce the necessity of grind and other tedious aspects of the game. (faster JP gain, easier class unlocks, better poaches, etc.)
3. To streamline the game’s difficulty so that it remained challenging to a player who previously played FFT, without forcing optimization or any extraneous leveling. (Special care has been taken to make sure that SCCs are, as a general rule of thumb, still possible.) To elaborate, m.c. and I playtested with basically no random encounters, no poaching, no beelining for any classic broken setup, etc. These routes are options for players to choose and use as their playstyle sees fit.

It's a fantastic patch, and a Board 8er (metroid composite) was a key part of the design team!

I could've sworn there was, but I don't see it in the forum post anymore... not sure what happened.

I can ask Laggy when I get a chance.

Isn't there something where you let an RNG decide your classes? I could do that.

SCC doesn't really appeal to me for the reason Ness said.

Or I could actually finish the playthrough I am on now...

Well I really wanna play KOTOR and Xenoblade for the first time respectively and I promised Zazi I'd play Starcraft for the first time as well.

FFT is like my third favorite game though, argh!
