One Piece would be good on there. It belongs on AS more than CN honestly.

Jason DeMarco of Adult Swim / William Street confirmed Toonami won't be on this weekend. He further said "stay tuned" and "getting Toonami rolling is a ton of work."

So yeah, maybe sometime soon.

Well all those anime series we saw last weekend was't there anymore. Ben 10 was dropping in ratings. Naruto couldn't keep up by itself. The block ended up really short, and with reruns of a few old action cartoons, like Samurai Jack or whatever, it just wasn't good enough for the channel anymore. They kinda ruined it themself though. Cartoon Network got interested in live-action series and wanted to focus on that. The also started to air some canadian series a whole lot for some reason (Johnny Test, 6teen, Total Drama etc.) Even I as a big fan of those will say that they tried too much with those. Thier old high-rated series like Ed, Edd n Eddy, Billy and Mandy, Fosters etc. were ending, they pretty much entered a new era you could say. So yeah in between all this Toonami also died.

But hey, they started improving throughout 2011 when they realized this wasn't working out. There has been incredible increases in ratings in the past year, and they've started to look back at the older days, bringing back old cartoons like Looney Tunes and starting up Cartoon Planet again. Now Toonami might be reborn. They're definetely not flawless though.

Why did they get rid of toonami to begin with?

because the people who watched toonami in its prime around 1999 to 2002 (aka people born in the mid 80s to early 90s) started to grow up and watch anime on their own time with their own money (or internet). Its ratings got real low due to not grabbing younger generations.

Also toonami in its later years (around 04 till it was cancelled) didn't haven any premier shows like a DBZ. DBZ's first full showing in the united states were on toonami (at least i think it was)

Actually, it was either FOX or WB that had it on weekday mornings until the Ginyu Force showed up. Everything after that was Toonami, but you could see the first saga(s?) of Dragonball and 50~ episodes of DBZ a few years before. It's why the voices change so much during the Recoome fight (though it was probably redubbed).

Oh your right, i remember now DBZ and Sailor Moon being shown on FOX at like 6 am on weekdays. At least in Pittsburgh it was real early in the morning. Not sure how much of a fanbase it built before toonami, and I know they didn't show more than like 2 seasons worth of episodes.

But the point i was trying to make was that you can't keep showing the same shows over and over and expect the programming block to be good. The people in this topic who don't want toonami to ever change and get new shows needs to realize that back in the late 90s to 2002 (when most of us probably feel toonami was at its peak), toonami changed quite a bit, DBZ was really the only show that stayed for a long time. If it came back, showed the same animes over and over, people would lose interest in the block all over again.

If toonami came back it would need to air classics (for nostalgia mostly) and new animes (to keep things exciting). Animes that only have 30 episodes, and long running ones too. In other words, a variety.

There are literally entire channels devoted to showing reruns of old (or really old) shows. I don't think a six hour programming block of old shows is too ridiculous.

it is for a network like CN, which could get a ton better ratings in another spot.

If toonami came back but only with its lineup from previous years over and over again, people would stop watching it. I'm pretty sure Nickelodeon's 90s were all that block is already losing some steam.

Toonami was so successful in the late 90s through early 00s because they kept getting lots of new animes.

A good mix of old and new would be ideal.

Yep

But what kind of new anime could they bring to bear?

Soul Eater is pretty new. They never finished One Piece, Zatch Bell, or MÄR. I think they could also do Naruto Shippouden, but I'm not sure. I've only seen the first three episodes and don't know if the rest is PG14 enough for Toonami. Come to think of it, did they even get to the end of the first Naruto?

I think they eventually got to the end of the first Naruto. I think it went off air a bit and then had the final 10~ fillers air.

Naruto was in some of the massive filler in the end of the first series when Toonami ended. Naruto Shippouden would be a obvious choice to air. It could run well with Funimations One Piece. On Adult Swim they can let Sanji smoke too <_<.

As for new anime, I think Fairy Tail would be a good choice.
