If you use any one of the ISPs mentioned in that news story, you should stop using torrents completely. I wouldn't be surprised of any of those ISPs are already secretly monitoring your torrenting activities before this program is scheduled to start by July 12th (or earlier).

So if you don't acknowledge that you've received their warnings, can they do anything to you? Or is it a "you can't use the internet until you acknowledge this" kind of thing?

Note that it's the ISPs doing this and there are no current legal ramifications behind it. It's making piracy like breaking the ToU here-- do it enough and you get banned, simple. It's not some secret government plot. Its the record companies paying ISPs to attack pirates....

I always thought large torrents of popular movies, games and music were a trap by the government/isps to catch you pirating so they can take even more of your money.

Good thing I only used torrents for obscure Japanese stuff.

A friend of mine got an email once from the company that made Dawn of War, with them saying that they knew he and X other people downloaded Dawn of War 2 and were going to take him to court.

He deleted the email, deleted the game, and never heard from them again.

I find this funny, because the company that made the franchise that Dawn of War is based on is notoriously protective of their Intellectual Property.
