It's $2.50 on Steam right now.

I have somehow never played it. Has it aged well?

I bought it off steam, but it doesn't display properly for some reason. Text is impossible to see

Graphics are very glitchy on modern PCs. You need to fiddle with the renderers and maybe download a custom DS9 renderer to make it work stable at full-speed.

But once you get it working, the gameplay holds up perfectly. It's still way more interesting and fun than many games today, since for some reason that style of game got left behind in the early 2000s for some reason.

holds up surprisingly well, yeah. generally the good news is that if it was made around 2000 or later, the game probably holds up well. rpgs can go before that, but shooters, especially on pc, really are fine with it. if you like it i'd recommend playing its real sequel, alpha protocol.

haven't played HR.
more like AP's much better than Invisible War + has the exact same style of the original down, only with everything improved upon. HR came afterwards so really, that'd be more like AP's sequel. >_>;

You know how people talk about games like FF7 and Goldeneye really needing an update? Deus Ex needs an update even more so.

FF7 and Goldeneye have aged far worse than DX1. DX1's ONLY problem is graphics compatibility. The graphics themselves aren't actually that bad once you get them working. AI is bad, too, but it doesn't really take away from the game.

FF7 and Goldeneye are just hard to look at though, on top of having lots of dated controls that could use improvement.

I'm not really sure it has. I played it for the first time a couple of years ago and to this day I really don't like it that much.
I happen to think HR is amazing too, so yeah. >_>

I played it for the first time like 2 years ago and I thought it was great. It did some things better than any other game I've played. The Unreal engine made controls really smooth and tight and had that classic 2000s feel, which is better than how a lot of modern games feel. DXHR was really amazing, too, and improved a lot on the original, but not on everything.
