I didnt want to discuss the Hunger Games topic with this so I made this one.
So me and Extha were having a discussion with one of my girl friends about te similarities between Katniss from Hunger Games and Bella Swan.
I was pointing out how both characters start out trying to show off the new female archetype: cold, distant, lone wolves, and then both descend right back into typical female self loathing and martyrdom.
Then I realized that this was the modern female. To the the in fact. All masculine and tough onthe outside and even more emotional turbulent and self loathing on the inside. Whats even funnier is that it's so spot on because women wrote both books.
Thoughts?

I definitely would not say ever but I get what you're saying. No, it's ever. Women have effectively enslaved themselves.
If you are talking about the American bubble then yeah but in terms of the history of human civilization then it's got male fingerprints all over it. And those fingerprints have evolution's fingerprints all over them so it's actually not our fault at all.

It's kinda funny, I was watching TV the other day and they were talking about the origins of Medusa, where apparently she was raped by the god Poseidon and SHE was the one punished to have snake-hair, ugly skin, and the stone stare. She was in the wrong because she had a vagina and Poseidon said "I want that, and I don't care how I get it."
I'd say a society that encourages that is a bit worse than modern feminism. Just sayin'.

They are related because both entities are bulls***

Cause Greek used these as life lessons to justify treating women like property. Their myths were a reflection of their society.
Men have definitely done a lot more to discriminate against women than the modern feminist. That's like saying the modern civil rights activist has done more to discriminate against the black man than any slaver.

Arguably true
I shouldn't laugh but now I'm picturing Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton telling slaves to come with them and they're like "nah, we'll just stick with the white guys, if that's all right to you."

Nah, they're empowering women by stoning them to death! They're giving them free rocks whenever they defy their rules, why would getting something free be bad?

UltimaterializerX posted... Only half true about the Greeks. My best friend is an English Education major and we talk about this stuff pretty much all the time, and our consensus is that the Greeks believed everything good came from humanity, while everything bad was explained away as coming from the gods. This is why the gods are basically jerkoffs who almost never do anything "good".
Actually that would make your statement fully true, huh.
if you are interested in that kinda stuff check out the evopsych studies they've done on the development of religion
one cool fact is the relationship between climate and stuff like views on women, suffering, etc in the religion that your people created
some study showed that religions (and not just your mainstream ones, it was like thousands that they researched) that emerged from low resource desert climates (egypt, middle east) were more likely to develop religions that had a angry pissed off god, saw life as full of suffering, and were dicks to women. more temperate/jungle climates were food and resources etc werent so much of a problem were more likely to have religions that were based in an earthly spiritual focus, adored women, and so on and so forth

Makes sense, really. Your views on life would influence your writing, and your views were probably a reflection of your life experiences. Have a s***ty life, write stories about how s***ty life is.
