I remember VX being dumb about tileset limitations and certain advanced variable operations. Although I might be misremembering the later.

Well with Ace there's still only 2 layers of tilesets but you can have a different tilesets with each map, something that VX didn't have.

And I don't know about the variable thing.

But a few things that Ace adds :

- Option to have more than 4 party members, only 4 battle but you can change them on the fly
- Caterpillar System, if you want your party member can follow you on the map
- LOADS of customization option for skills and weapons, you can now have skills that make you learn new moves (for combos or something) and a ton of different effects without the need of events of scripts
- LOADS of customization for characters, you can customize stuff like critical rate, evasion rate or things like HP regen or even Counterattack chances!
- Face/Sprite generator, making new sprites is super easy now

And other things!

The customization options for items and skills really is amazing now, you can literally do anything.

Bracelet that allows you to use a certain class or weapon/armor? Doable
Spell that enchants your attack with flames at the cost of making you vulnerable to water? Doable
Items that teach you skills? Doable
Potions that boosts stats for a certain amount of time? Doable
Spell to prevent random encounter? Doable

Tons and tons of options!

I looked into "buying" Ace yesterday, and I only found out how to "buy" the Japanese version with an English patch.
