First time I've ever had a console that just flat out stopped working, y'know not being an xbox owner and all. Was under the illusion that it was only the 60GB launch models at risk but apparently not since mine was a 40GB. I thought something was odd last night since I was playing FFXIII and actually enjoying it, the karma gods must have had to take action against my unusual emotions.

I've completed the first step of making inflammatory phone calls to Sony but whats the best thing to do now? Apparently they'll replace it for 120 euro, it costs 230 to get a new slim. They mentioned something about an upgrade to a slim for the replacement but I'm not sure what kind of warranty that'd have compared to a new model. Plus if I send it in to them I can't directly transfer my data, I've seen the temporary fixes for the yellow light so would I could get it working again long enough to transfer.

What'd you guys do for yellow lights out of warranty?

I never got a yellow light....mine just stopped reading discs after repeatedly freezing during FFXIII. I just decided to buy a slim because my ps2 still worked and sony wanted almost as much to repair it as to buy a slim.
