I cut back on diet soda because I got paranoid about aspartame. I started drinking flavored vitamin waters and such. But now I'm noticing that these waters have sucralose in them.

So... is sucralose that big of a deal?

there's less research on it than aspartame, but it's a sugar substitute. it's better than aspartame but still not good. i think stevia is the best one out there, but very little uses it.

Eh. It depends on what kind you're drinking.
This stuff is pretty good, imo: external image

why don't you just drink water

it actually tastes way better than flavored water, assuming it is cold

This.

If you want to add some taste to your water make it a tea, or somethin'

Like, iced tea? I usually want a cold drink when I'm thirsty, and I find that flavored water has way more flavor than (hot) tea. [Unless, of course, I'm doing it wrong.]

And yeah. I agree that water is the best. But sometimes, I want something interesting to drink.

vitamin water's damn good. however if you want flavored waters there's absolutely nothing wrong with many of 'em. a lot are done steamed and don't actually have any other real ingredients to 'em.

stevia contains stevia

it comes from a plant. the stevia plant.

for example, stevia in liquid form

http://www.amazon.com/SweetLeaf-SteviaClear-Liquid-4-Ounce-Bottles/dp/B001E5E3JY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1332105406&sr=8-2

the price looks high, but this is a two pack. 4 ounces doesn't seem like much either, but you literally use this stuff drops at a time.

you can get stevia in powdered form too.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006QRU5ZQ/ref=cm_cr_asin_lnk

i would look at your local health food store to see if they stock products that have stevia...it is slowly getting more popular as people discover some of its benefits.

does it taste different than sugar? yes. but it still carries a sweet taste to it without calories or raising one's glycemic index (good for diabetics)

i've mostly been testing it in varying amounts with plan water to good effect, as well as adding it to some tea here and there. the biggest mistake people make with it is treating it like sugar and adding far more of the stuff than needed which makes your drink biter. one teaspoon is roughly the equivalent of a cup of sugar.
