What are those flashing streetlamps you have? Are they simply to designate places to cross the street?

Why not replace them with traffic signals, and not leave it up to the drivers to decide when pedestrians can cross.

how about when you need to get across the street and no cars will stop because you are on foot and they are in cars and there isn't **** you can do about it because they could easily crush every bone in your body and there's nothing you could do to them because they are in a car

but no I guess crosswalks were invented solely to make you .2 minutes later to work when you're already running late because of something that is your own fault

They are there to signal when there is a zebra crossing.
Zebra crossings are crossing where pedestrians have right of way, so they are kind of a warning sign to say "Slow down. If you hit a pedestrian at a zebra crossing, you're pretty much f***ed".
You usually find them on roads that are busy, but not many people cross or only cross at a certain time in the day e.g. outside of a school.
I find that they are not as frequent as they used to be though. My primary school and high school both used to have zebra crossings but now have traffic lights.
Which was really annoying because I used to have cross the road to get to bus stop, so if there was a bus which I needed to run for I could just step on the zebra crossing and cars would stop for me. Then they changed it and I had to wait until the lights eventually became red >=(. Which takes a great deal longer.

This actually looks dangerous for the pedestrians but some off them are being total jerks so I don't care about them and what is up with that crazy intersection there it is crazier than the ones here in Michigan

Well that sheds some light on the subject. I still don't know, I really distrust drivers, I would have a hard time stepping out into oncoming traffic hoping they would stop for me. Even if the penalties for hitting someone on a zebra crossing is harsh, doesn't help me if I'm dead.

Also, what is a crumpet and where can I get one? They sound delicious.

To be honest, most pedestrians kinda assume that drivers won't stop immediately, so they don't just step out into the road, they look and make sure the traffic has actually noticed them and is slowing down before they cross.

Crumpets are light and fluffy and taste delicious toasted with butter.

If you see a zebra crossing and just decide to walk out without looking for incoming cars, you're an idiot. I'll wait and see if a driver is slowing down and allowing me to cross. You just don't usually wait more than 2 cars because most driver do stop. It is the law.
I think there was a great Remi Gallard prank where him and a bunch of people dressed up in funny costumes and stopped some cars at a zebra crossing. In lasted for around 2 minutes and the cars couldn't go forward because the pedestrains had right of way :)

And crumpets are meh. I used to really like them, but my Mum introduced me to Warburtons Hot Cross Bun loaf. Vastly superior.
