I thought the pictures were great. Lots of much needed screentime for underdeveloped characters.

Also make sure you don't miss the alt text when you hover over the banner!

The content was pretty great, but the picture format could get a bit annoying.

The comic was on a long hiatus while Hussie was making Cascade.

When it was finished he uploaded it to Newgrounds to avoid having his site crashed from everyone rushing to watch it. Then... Newgrounds crashed from everyone rushing to watch it.

Then he uploaded it to Megaupload instead, which promptly went down as well. As did multiple streaming sites showing it.

It's safe to say Cascade is what caused Homestuck's boom in popularity. I started reading around that point as well.

The Cascade hiatus was one of astronomical proportions.

I didn't have any difficult classes at the time and read before school and during class. I also normally read large books in the span of a couple of days if I like them. Ex. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when I was in middle school in only a day and a half.

The Cascade fallout was one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen happen online, glad I was around for it. So many people freaking out as websites crashed and spoilers kind of trickled in from it causing people to flip out (I didn't read them, though, I was one of the few that got lucky and was able to DL from Megaupload before it went down).

Was just all around an amazing experience.

EDIT: As far as I know, the extent of the damage was thus:

Newgrounds: Crashed for several hours
Megaupload: Crashed for several hours
Streaming sites: Several went down for an hour or so
Mediafire: Slowed to a crawl (sub 5 kb/s) for everyone for about 2 hours
Fileserve and Rapidshare: Crashed for about 15 minutes and then had sub-30 kb/s speed for the rest of the day


Homestuck effectively DDOS'd the internet that day. And it was glorious.

Took me about 6 days I think. Got really into it though, if I didn't have work I would probably have finished even faster.

I don't find it too hard to believe. See people crazy about what I did in WKC, but that's just normal business for me. I can't do the same with comics as I just get sick of reading at some point, but I'm not surprised that some did it in 5 days. It's like my friend who watched like 400 episodes of One Piece in a 2 week span.

Iunno it's less of a "I can't believe you spent every waking moment reading until you caught up" and more of a "how do you read that quickly" thing

I don't think I could have caught up in less than two weeks even if that was pretty much all I was doing; Iunno maybe I waste too much time randomly distracting myself to look up things, or maybe I just read slowly. I read the last 3 HP books in one day each though, so I don't think I'm that slow.

Also you don't really need to read the big tumblr posts he made since the important parts are covered in-comic a little later on. They are interesting reads though. Just not necessary.

If you're talking the general fanbase, something like "OH MY GOD BEST CHARACTERS EVER I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET BRO AND MOM"

The fanbase was still riding off the high of Cascade at that point, even with the hiatus in between. Act 6 seemed like the coolest thing ever at the time.

(protip: Act 6 so far has been pretty cool overall)
