It'll just be jarring to go back to some new fool that won't be The Best VG Character Ever
I mean I didn't much care for...any of the other characters in Revelations (while 2/Brotherhood had the boss that is Bartolomeo, as well as Machiavelli, La Volpe, and Leonardo) but Ezio alone is great enough for it to not matter as much as it otherwise might.
So now they're going to make me want to either care for some new scrub, or even worse, make me care for Desmond? Let's be real here!
It's probably too early to say but right now it would be a miracle for AC3 to be better than 2/Brotherhood/Revelations.
The whole point of the 2012 framing device was to change the cast every game. I agree that Ezio is a great character, but the series did kinda get bogged down in his story, and I'm looking forward to shaking things up again.
And hey, look on the bright side- after AC3 wraps up the current plot arc, Ubisoft have suggested that the 'Present' strand will be rebooted with a new cast too- no more Desmond!
(Oh, and it's 90% likely that we know what the next setting will be, and there's a small chance we know who the next protagonist will be. Watch AC: Embers.)

Yeah Ezio was almost too good for the series. They did such a good job with him people wanted more, so we get Brotherhood and Revelations (well, we might have done anyway, but Ezio was overwhelmingly popular even after AC2). As a result anybody who comes after him is kind of a poor substitute.
(I did. Now I'm sad.)
