i dunno what the demo gives you

and i'm still not really sure what is going on in this game and don't know how to make sense of the fighting mechanics

You just gotta keep trying out different things with the fighting.

There is a surprisingly large amount of combos that you may very well never see if you don't try and mix things up, because the game sure as hell isn't gonna tell you about them.
