According to Amazon.com's package tracking, my copy of Survivor Thailand is out for delivery and will be arriving today. Per request of SanityLapse, I will do a rewatch of one of my least favorite seasons to see if any of my opinions have changed, particularly my unpopular opinion of hating Clay. I will be updating this topic after (and maybe sometimes even while) watching each episode. Let's see if this season can get any higher in my next season rankings. It's not last like it used to be (that honor goes to Samoa), but it's down there, and I really want to like it, because I remember Robb and Brian, and even Helen being awesome.

I also remember Jake being pretty cool. And Ghandia being not just a terrible character, but one of the few Survivors that I truly believe is just a terrible person IRL. And Jan being bats*** (including a scene involving a bat, incidentally).

Just arrived in the mail and I'm happy to report that, rather than the unwieldly packaging for Africa, Marquesas and HvV, which was 9 (10 for HvV) discs in three regular sized dvd cases with no box, Thailand is 5 discs in one single regular DVD case. Hopefully this format follows for the remainder of the seasons, but it's too bad those three look so awkward on the shelf next to the rest.
Also, I thought I'd point out that with Thailand's DVD release, Amazon is now the only season that is not commercially available in any form - Seasons 1-10 (minus Amazon) and HvV are available on DVD, and the rest (minus Amazon) are available on iTunes and other VOD services.

Ugh, so this is what the people mean in their reviews when they say the "printed on demand" discs give them trouble. I never had any problems with Africa, Marquesas or HvV, but this one just isn't having it.

Got it to work, got the first episode done, and wow am I intrigued. Glad to see most of the cast getting their fair share of the edit. Somebody who watches this season for the first time after seeing today's seasons would think that Ghandia, who got the most screen time, is going to go far and be a huge personality, since that person usually gets the biggest edit in the first episode these days, and a bunch of people are invisible. Not the case though. Hell, I think Brian got the smallest edit this episode, and even he got a confessional and a TCQ. Robb starts off Fabio-like, but quickly degenerates into the guy that we remember him for who constantly flies off the handle, setting the stage for the self-destruction of Sook Jai. I really don't remember Jed at all from the last time I watched this, but he seems like a whiny douchebag and I'm glad he doesn't go far. As for Clay, he was surprisingly insightful at tribal council.

Episode 2 done. It's too bad Tanya got sick, because she seemed like a really likable person both to the audience and the tribemates, so under different circumstances she could have done pretty well. Brian still not getting that edit that he's known for yet. Just poking his head in here and there so far. Not much from Robb, and Ghandia was meh. Still hating Jed. Clay I'm indifferent to so far.
Next episode is perhaps the ugliest in Survivor history.

Through episode 3 (where are you, Sanity?) and all I can say is that if I could pick a Survivor to be on every season like Russell and I'd never get sick of them, Shii Ann would probably be among my top 5 candidates for that pick. I just love how she has a cute little snide remark about everything, that's always 100% true. And it's funny because I haven't always loved her this much, except for now and my most recent rewatch of All-Stars.
