Is the gameplay very linear? Just looking at some clips online, it looks like it's very much a Point A to Point B kind of thing. Is that true, or is it more of a thing like Super Mario 64 where you can explore a large area and complete objectives in non-linear orders?
Also, what would you say the best game in the entire series is?

This is here so that I can say something in all caps if I want.
It's linear but there's a hub, and some optional paths that you can't get to the first time, and you unlock bonus levels by getting artifacts (at least in 3, the only one I played besides CTR)

The only certain death in the universe is Mother Hitton's Littul Kittons. Not changing this line until I beat Seven Heroes (2/24/07)
IIRC, Crash Bandicoot 1 doesn't have a hub, but rather a map screen a la Donkey Kong Country games where you navigate around the levels you can choose to play.
It's been over a decade since I played it so that could be completely wrong but that's how I remember it.
Keep in mind that it was being developed at the same time as Super Mario 64 (and was even released first here in North America), so I don't think the idea of a hub world or open-world platforming had entered Naughty Dog's consciousness yet.
