From: PropheticDeuce | #003 Even with Manning the Colts would be sub .500
No, they would not. We'd probably be 7-1, maybe 6-2, unlikely 5-3. These teams don't get to score on us if Manning leads 6 or 7 minute drive converting 3 or 4 3rd down conversions. His value is unfathomable. In addition to god mode offense, he is (by proxy) our best defensive player, and lord knows he is a more competent coach than Caldwell (though, then again, so am I, and anyone else here, hell, probably some people who never watched football are more competent than Jim.)
Also, Brady gets hurt, Pats go 12-4 (he went 11-5 next year for reference). Manning gets hurt, and they are about to join the 07 Lions.
So much for that "debate"
Didn't they go 11-5 with Cassel and be the only team ever to win 11 and miss the playoffs?
I was thinking they missed the playoffs at 12 wins, oh well, the point still stands. Bellicheat is the essential cog for NE, any ok QB can take that team and run with it, Brady has 2 MVPs out of that system, but it is all the system. Al you need is an accurate check down QB.
Manning is the system. You need a god mode QB to run his offense. There are maybe 4 QB's all time who could pull it off. Brady was literally one win better than a scrub. Manning out is going to watch a team go 0-16.
To be fair, the Colts were on the decline even before Manning's injury. The Colts would not be dominant this year even with him. Probably still fighting the Texans for the division lead.
