it's alright. definitely on the bottom of the good Radiohead albums ranking (so above PH, Bends, and HttT but below everything else). I don't keep myself aware on upcoming releases and I don't always remember what came out this year, so I can't say where it sits for the year.

I can say for sure though that Avey Tare and Panda Bear both put out better stuff this year. did that small Burial thing with like three tracks come out this year, and is that considered an album? I liked that more too. I put Helplessness Blues right around the same area as KoL.

...or apparently I can't say that about Avey Tare because that came out last year. oops.

Between you and Seg I'm confused as to how you can't like House of Balloons.

Every time I listen to it I find a new part that blows me away. Right now it's the Metric portion of Party/After Party.

house of balloons is my aoty.

followed by bon iver, strange mercy . . . yeah radiohead probably makes top 5. TKOL is probably fifth on my radiohead rankings, just ahead of HTTT and Amnesiac.

At first I liked King of Limbs a lot, but I soon noticed it wasn't on par with Radiohead's other stuff as I listened to it just a few couple times and only revisited it to listen to some of the tracks (mostly the second half). I probably place it in the bottom in terms of Radiohead albums, just ahead of Pablo Honey (as I am one of those weird people who really like HttT).

In 2011 terms... eh. I have listened to, I dunno, 15 2011 albums, and I'd still place King of Limbs in the bottom 5. Not because 2011 has been a great year, but because it's that weak. Five nice 2011 albums, off the top of my head:
> Madeline - Black Velvet
> Grails - Deep Politics
> Fakuta - Al Vuelo
> The Weeknd - House of Balloons
> Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

My main qualm with 2011 is that artists I traditionally like a lot (Radiohead, Okkervil River, Panda Bear, Bright Eyes) put out really disappointing albums. Fortunately Fleet Foxes and Wilco held up fine.

Panda Bear's album is really good, but it's also pretty straightforward. Probably much of the audience expected a Person Pitch Part Two. I know I would've preferred a bit more experimentation, but Tomboy is good nonetheless. Definitely in my Top 10 (where Radiohead is not).

I like Tomboy, especially when listening to the tracks separately. But listening to the album completely can be really difficult, as the songs start blending with each other and it all becomes really... dunno, predictable? Straightforward? I was definitely not hoping for Person Pitch 2.0, but I did hope it would be more interesting overall.

I'd say using synths as often as panda bear did on tomboy is fairly experimental for him. I'm not a fan of the album but it's definitely a departure from his last two albums

I think his vocal tendencies began to get predictable on Tomboy. He sounded like someone doing a Panda Bear impression.

That's a perfect description of Tomboy: Where Person Pitch's songs weren't as enjoyable as singles but great as an album, Tomboy's singles are legit but when placed in an album begin to blend together. Fleet Foxes put out a god damn masterpiece and yet quite a few Board 8ers find it boring. Thursday isn't as good as House of Balloons but it's still really good.

I was pretty unimpressed with King of Limbs. Off the top of my head, some of my top albums this year are

Boris - Attention Please
Gillian Welch - The Harrow & The Harvest (btw Icon I saw her live last week. Phenomenal.)
They Might Be Giants - Join Us
Laurel Halo - Hour Logic

Man, I'm blanking on good albums this year.

Icon i've been meaning to ask you about the new Gillian Welch. How do you like it in comparison to Revelator?
