Between the boring ass fight scene, the ham-fisted idea about how journalism works, the confusing opening about the Daily Planet being destroyed, but its rebuilt, then its not, but it is! Just a really awful comic book, and Jesus Merino is wasted on it.
Aquaman was good, but in a Geoff Johns way of "I'm gonna streeeeeeeetch out this 2 part story to 6 issues, just watch!". Aquaman stops some robbers, Geoff Johns stand-in interview guy comes in for background detail, angsty Arthur, then a hook near the end. Not a great comic by any stretch of imagination, but not a bad one, either. I'll probably get the next one.
Flash had REALLY awesome artwork, but as expected, I cannot give a single f*** about Barry Allen, his job, his supporting cast, his science knowhow, any of it. Probably won't be picking up the next issue.
Voodoo was awful, as expected. Probably won't even be around for the next issue, its getting cancelled so quick.

Well, DC has stated that absolutely nothing will ever be cancelled before 6 issues have been released, meaning nothing will end u9 being under around 8 or 9 issues. But yeah, Voodoo probably deserves the chopping block. It wasn't terrible, but there's just way better stuff they could be putting out. A New Gods book, Adventure Comics, Shazam, Cyborg, etc. ANd that's just stuf that's actually likely to happen.
Hawkman tries to burn his costume for whatever reason, then it attacks him, then its actually living inside him all along or something or other. Yep, another terrible Tony Daniel comic, but the artwork is nice looking?
All-Star Western is good, although like most Joneh Hex stories of the past decade, mainly because of the artwork. Still, it does a great job setting up the status quo and introducing the character to the readers. Still, are we seriously doing ANOTHER "Gotham is built on eeeeeevil conspiracys and such" right after Gates of Gotham? That's funny
Batman: The Dark Knight #1 was just...why does this book exist? We already got a Batman book with fake ass Image-style artwork and terribly overdone dialog, did we really need another one? And I literally LOL'd at the One-Face thing. I mean...wow. WOW

Just read my first book, Flash, which was gorgeous. That splash page introduction was just stunning. This book might be the best of Manapul's career, and Booch really knows how to colour Manapul's art. They really were the best part of Johns' latest Flash run. The story, whatever; these guys aren't writers, so I'm more forgiving when characters aren't really established or have unique voices. Booch and Manapul handle the basics, in that there's something moving the story forward in every page and it ends with hook. I don't know if I care about anything that happened because, as writers, they gave me little reason to care, but I'm sticking on for a bit.
It reminded me a lot of Batwoman, in that the art was the best comics have to offer, but the story was a bit lacking. The art wasn't as good in Flash, and I have more nagging issues with the character work than I did in Batwoman, so if that book was a B-, Flash is a C+.
I think a lot of people showed art progress this week. Tan completely blew me away. I don't know if this is a new thing, but Manapul drew Flash with colored pencils which may explain the change. Aquaman is Ivan Reis best work, it kind of has that widescreen comics thing going on. CInar's Firestorm splash page was a sight to behold. Jesus Merino has worked wonders alongside Perez' breakdowns. Janin's got a unique looking going on, and then we've got Moritat and Sorrentino, who I've never seen before. But they're great. Really, the only stinker on art was Dark Knight, not a Finch fan. And if you told me New Guardians was drawn by Jim Lee in a slight rush, I would have believed you.
That's what pissed me off most about the issue, but there's also the problem that it pretty much did a crap-tastic job of copying some of the formulas from Batman. Arkham breakout, Bruce appearing in public to give a speech, an obvious male rival approaches, etc.
deadpoolmax #12: yet another great deadpoolmax comic. glad it's coming back next month
best two lines
Deadpool: Don't You just love it? The great outdoors, the fresh air filled with the scent of bear poop Bob: You can smell bear poop? Deadpool: It's not like I choose these powers, Bob.
and
*Deadpool foils Taskmaster's evil plan* Taskmaster: I don't even want to have sex with you anymore...
if you guys didn't get this book in singles, get it in trade and hope on next month for deadpoolmax ii
No, Batman's last page is the kind of thing you immediately look at and say, "Yeah, right, ok" Of course Dick Grayson isn't an actual murderer, we're not stupid, I'm sure its just some mix up, and some dumb ploy to get people thinking, "OMG DICK GRASYON IS A MURDERRRRRRER!?" There's two ways to go about this, the obvious "lol nope that was wrong" answer, or he totally is a murderer and DC is dumber then they let on.
Great comic, stupid final page

Or it could be a Dick Grayson from another dimension. Don't the solicits mention something about an Owlman? Maybe there's an evil Dick Grayson that took over the role just like the good Dick Grayson took over as Batman.

It was commissioned for a new run! Not sure how many issues DeadpoolMax II will be, but there's solicits for three issues and a Christmas Special already, so we'll have plenty of Deadpool & Bob to read in the future.
Galactus was scared off by the Destroyer Armor? Is it really that scary considering Thor defeats it constantly? Apparently it was wielding Mjolnir, but still, I don't know. I got kind of confused about what happened there, but it doesn't matter, because the stupid part came near the end. Silver Surfer decided to stay on Earth as a human to watch over the Seed so that when Odin died, he can get Galactus to eat it, and since Galactus is down a Herald, Surfer... tells him to enlist that short old religious man. And Galactus does. So now the little church man became PRAETOR.
Stupid.
At least Coipel's art is still awesome.

Hey Um... Zapp Comics (I looked up and down on your page for a name... makes it hard to connect :P) ANYWAYs... I have some original art of Kenneth Rocafort and Gerardo Gordo Sandoval that I original purchased for an online store that I am no longer investing in. I can deep discount them if you buy the bulk just to get them outta my studio. If we work out a good enough deal, I will even promote your store for a while to my cool peeps that I know. Interested?
Rachel Rising is certainly a good read. I'm assuming I should know who Terry Moore is. I've definitely heard the name.
Best books this week for me:
Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz I, Vampire All-Star Western Rachel Rising Aquaman Teen Titans Secret Avengers
American Vampire is the first issue of the new arc, and it's a Skinner Sweet flashback arc so....still good, but I'm less interested in it than the last amazing arc and the mini series.
No New Mutants yet, really wanted to buy that one.
Cliff at the shop claimed Secret Avengers 16.1 by Bendis was a huge ****ing deal that everyone needed to read and the most important Marvel book of the year...but I skipped it.
EDIT: Oh, and I feel I should give props to Firestorm for being the #1 out of all the 52 that I am most anticipating the future of.
He worked on Echo and Strangers in Paradise, which are the antithesis to certain books releases last week. I love the way he structures his stories, they're very organic. It seems like he scripts an arc and ends the comic after 24 pages, regardless of where it is in the story.

Love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And well change the world.

DEFINITELY noticed this in Rachel Rising 1 and 2. For both comics I had to flip back and forth once or twice to make sure I didn't have stuck pages. Not a problem, though, just odd.
From: ZenOfThunder | #488 New Avengers 16.1 was slightly better than the average Avengers book, but the art was meh and it was so goddamn predictable it was unreal
What was the UNIVERSE CHANGING SET-UP my store owner was talking about?

it's a bit jarring when you read a Terry Moore comic after a pile of Marvel and DC books. refreshing, but jarring. I wish there were more Terry Moores out there.
Neal Adams is usually associated with Blue/Black/Grey Batman comics. Maybe you're just not used to seeing him in the bright and shiny Avengers universe.
