So, I have an 8Gb iPod touch I got from my brother since he claimed it didn't work. Naturally it doesn't really work. After maybe listening to songs for a while the thing just completely shuts off, black screen, and refuses to turn back on. The battery is fine, that's not the issue. The only way it'll turn back on is if I plug it into the computer, and even then it only turns on maybe 75% of the time, with iTunes recognizing it about half the time. I've reset the iPod to factory settings about 3 or 4 times, and that doesn't seem to help.
