Eat it jealous haters. We have the most consistent and clutch baseball player who ever lived, and he's still going strong.

Saves are a really bad stat to use to judge greatness. That said, Mariano is amazing.

Why do you act like it was breaking 600 saves that made him the greatest closer of all time.

Pretty much this, especially since he's also blown 72 saves, but no one in their right mind would even consider using that against him.

Hasn't Boston done better against him than any other team in baseball?

Saves in the clutch, however, are not.

Remember that time he pitched 3 scoreless extra innings against Boston in the 2003 ALCS? And how he was geared up to pitch a 4th?

Mo is simply the best pitcher of the modern era.

No. Mariano holds the record for most career saves against the Red Sox.

See Mariano could get 2,000 saves and it'd only be 10% as amazing as this stat. It'd be like saying a guy hitting 200 RBIs in a year is what makes him amazing when he's hits over .600 that year.

Well, yes, of course. They face off the most and have the most close games, so he has the most opportunities.

I believe he also has more blown saves againts Boston than any other team.

Rivera has a 2.24 FIP for the postseason. I wonder how that compares in terms of other closers in the playoffs.

Based on fangraphs numbers, since 2002, Mo has 386 saves and has blown 38 of them (so he converted ~90% of all opportunities). Blown saves were not recorded before 2002.

According to google, between the regular season and postseason, Mariano Rivera has had 74 save opportunities against the Red Sox. He has blown 16 of them. (converting only ~78% of all opportunities).

Not to say that Mo Rivera isn't awesome and that I don't prepare to turn off the TV when he comes in against us, but singling out with "bane of boston" seems silly.
